should I request to be retested?

DH and I did all of our tests with an RE clinic and were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. My thyroid tests were higher than they were supposed to be and I have since been put on medication. Now that I look back on when the blood tests were done on me, I now know I was pregnant at the time. I was told this could have been the reason my thyroid tested the way it did.

Knowing this makes me want to retest now that I am no longer pregnant. I'm not sure how the results would vary, but I cant help thinking that maybe I can get a clearer response...

Thoughts? Should I ask to be retested? AF hasnt returned since m/c so I know even if I was to be tested again I would have to wait.

The Thyroid being off can have an impact on getting/staying pregnant, and yes it might have been off because of pregnancy, but you need to know if that was the reason it was off so I would get another test. It is a simple blood test, but I would wait 4 weeks to give your Thyroid levels time to stabilize.

Sorry for your loss.  Are you still on synthyroid (I'm assuming that's what you were put on)?  Or how long have you been off it?  It can take your thyroid a long time to rebound once you stop the medication.  While you're between cycles it might make sense to meet with your primary care to sort out the thyroid stuff.  I know RE's worry about it from a fertility standpoint, but hopefully your primary will look at if from more of a long-term overall-health perspective.  There are also other tests they can do to get a more accurate gauge on it (TSH actually isn't the best indicator).

TTC since August 2010
DH diagnosed with Azoospermia in January 2012
Vas reconstruction surgery in April 2012; unsuccessful
IVF with ICSI February 2013; single blastocyst 5dt
First beta March 1 is 147!!!

It takes 4-6 weeks for you levels to rebound once you change a dosage. The comment about TSH is not true. It is a great indicator for thyroid function issues, yes there are other tests to get the bigger picture (T3, Free T4 and antibodies), but the TSH is extremely important.

Yes I was put on synthyroid and yes i am still taking it. At this point I am wondering if I even need to be taking it. In an earlier post I asked synthyroid  users how they felt before and after starting the medication. Most said an increase in energy, but I havent felt that at all. As a matter of fact I am exhausted. All the time.

Especially if you are still on Synthroid and having symptoms you should get retested. I am an unusual circumstance, but I get tested every month, and will continue to while we are actively TTC and through pregnancy.

This. I was wondering why OP doesn't already have a scheduled "re-test" date as I understand once you have been put on thyroid medication you need to re-check your values periodically to make sure you are not being under or over dosed.

Yep, especially if you were put on it by an RE because you are TTC and your levels were high and you don't know if that dosage was right. The very first time I started taking any Thyroid meds I was tested every month for about 6 months while they tweaked the exact dosage I needed, it isn't like oh here is x dosage and that is standard and is all you need. I currently jump between dosages and sometimes have to take different dosages on the weekends than the weekdays.

I dont mean tested specifically for my thyroid issue. I do get tested monthly to ensure the dosage is correct. I am wondering if my blood should be retested completely for ALL test regarding fertililty bc I was pregnant at the time of my tests.

I also am tested every 1-2 months but that's because my levels keep bouncing all over the place even with medication and they cannot bump up the meds any farther.  Now that they've discovered it's autoimmune related (and not just 'regular' thyroid issues) and I have high antibodies from it, I'm going to ask my new PCP for a referral to an Endocrinologist.

My RE had been dealing with my issues (untreated PCOS and thyroid issues) but we're taking a break from treatment and I assume an Endocrinologist is better apt to treat multiple endocrine issues than a PCP?

Sweet - do you see and Endo or just the RE?  My Rheumy is the one who discovered it is autoimmune related, but she doesn't want to 'handle' it because she only does joint/bone issues and nothing else, even if directly caused/related to my MCTD.
