Bassinets

With my first one I bought a really nice bassinet for about $40.00 at Once Upon a Child, I used it for 2-3 months and then she went into a crib.  Well I made the mistake of sellilng it back to Once Upon a Child.  I don't see the need in spending $100.00 or more on a bassinet when I am only using it for 2 or 3 months.  Well now I have been going to Once Upon a Child and they haven't had any in for months.  I have also been going to Craigslist and haven't had any luck on there.  I have had some bad luck with Ebay in the past.  Can anyone give me some websites where I could find a bassinet for around $30.00-$40.00?

Could you post a "Wanted" ad on Craigslist? I have heard of quite a few people finding specific baby items that way. I would also keep checking as those sites change daily. I would also keep an eye on Target clearance. I found a PNP there for $40 and it was one of the really nice Graco ones with the diaper changing station, bassinet feature, and storage compartments.

Is there more than one Once Upon A Child even remotely close to you? I would go to their website and try to find another location. If that location is slightly further, but not too terribly far out of your way, I'd call to ask if they have any bassinets on the floor, ready to be sold.

Additionally, are there any other second hand stores that perhaps don't get a lot of exposure in your area? We have Once Upon A Child (three of them close to me) but I recently discovered this cute, little smaller-scale second hand shop called Little Darlings that is close to me as well. They don't have as large of a selection as Once Upon A Child, but their products tend to be in better shape than Once Upon A Child, as they have to be more selective in what they buy. Either way, the prices are comparable and not all that different.

Do you have any friends that have had babies roughly 4-6+ months ago that you can borrow a bassinet from, or even purchase theirs?

I second the PP about keeping an eye out for deals for new bassinets as well.

You said you only used it for a couple of months, why not just go right to the crib and spend the money on a nice double stroller that you'll use a lot longer?

How about a rock and play by the bed? I'm debating between my co-sleeper bass and RNP. I started putting DS in the RNP at 5 weeks and he slept 7 plus hours a night thereafter. I may just do the the co-sleeper for the first month.

How about a pack n play with a bassinet attachment?  I'm just thinking that it's more practical to buy items that you'll be able to use longer than 2-3 months.

Do you have a babies r us near by? They have marked a lot of stuff way down at my local store, they had the plastic bassinets for $40 and the wood ones for $65, and you can use a 20% off coupon too. The price doesn't seem to be the same online though, so I imagine it's hit or miss for what they have in stock.

We used the bassinet attachment for our P&P for a very brief time and then didn't use the P&P for months.  I started to think it was a waste of money since Olivia almost went right into the crib but now, the P&P is set up in the living room with toys in it and she plays in there while we cook or clean or do stuff that takes us away from the room.  Love that P&P

I'm using a Rock n Play.  They're cheaper, smaller and a lot of babies sleep better in them.

Great advice. I am pretty OCD and would also check Craigslist often. We bought a bassinet last night for $25 and it seems brand new. You never know what could pop up.
