Boy naming style vs. girl naming style

I posted yesterday about the name Giada and it got me thinking.  I have really different tastes when it comes to boy names vs. girl names.

For ex-- DD is Josephine.  I like uber classic, almost puritanical sounding names for girls.  Elizabeth, Frances and Mary are all on my list.  FTR, I think since DH likes Giada so much we WILL use it, but in the MN spot.

However for boys I really like Spanish/ Italian sounding names-- Rafael, Francisco, Gustavo and Domenico are all on our boy list.  We have a Spanish last name that sometimes gets mistaken for an Italian last name, just for reference.

Anyone else have this going on?  Would it sound "weird" in terms of sibsets to have one "English" name and one Spanish/ Italian name?

Also, just want to add that DH has a very common Spanish first name.

I don't think that would be weird, especially since you have other Spanish names in the family.

I'm kinda all over the place origin-wise with our name choices too, I think it is reflects how American we are. :)

I wouldn't think twice about mixed ethnicity names within a family at all.  The only thing that would appear strange to me is if children with European heritages were named ethnically Asian names, KWIM?

Daisuke Greene and Yoko Smith sound weird (obviously only when neither parent has Asian heritage)

It's funny — I'm exactly the opposite. For girls, I love names like Euphemia, Demetria, Galilea, Philomena, Giuseppa, etc.

But for boys, I get skittish. I love Rafael (see siggy), but feel like it's a bit too much (especially w/ DH's common English surname). All of my family names — Salvatore, Pasquale, Luigi, Americo, Ilario, Manfredo, etc. — just seem so strongly Italian that I can't see using them for a kid who won't be bilingual. Fine for a middle name, but I'm really hesitant to go there for a first name for a boy.

I'm sort of odd.

I like religious boy names (examples: Joseph, Benjamin, Moses), but for girls, I'm not sure what "type" of names I like.

I'm sort of all over the place with the girl names (I like Emmalynn and Avery, but I also like Anais and Eden, so I like common names, but I also like "weird" names).

My maiden name is pure Italian, always mistaken for Spanish... however my paternal grandma was Spanish so it's always been amusing to us. My name is Italian/Russian, and hubby's is English I guess... Baby's gonna have a Polish last name with (boy) Hebrew/English first name and girl we're still working on...

I think mixed ethnicity names are great- especially if they represent the family history!

We have different naming styles for boys and girls names.

Boys: FN after family, MN after family. Very masculine.

Girls: FN is any name we love, MN after moms family. Not in the top 1000

Both: Easy to spell, say, and remember. No trends or celebrity names.

I much more picky for girls than for boys and have a much harder time finding compromise names for girls.  For girls I am much more judgemental and would be more inclined to use a trendy boy name then a trendy girl name.  If I could pick on my own I think my styles would be similar, but my standards are different for boy anames and girl names.

I don't think I really have a naming "style." The only thing that was consistent among our choices was family significance in at least one part of each name.

I am liberal when it comes to boy names. I think it's why I don't have trouble finding boy names I like. I tend towards what people on this board would call trendy (i.e. Grayson, Parker, ect) but I also really like traditional names (Michael, Lucas, ect.).

With girl names I am incredibly picky. I don't like cutesy or "trendy" at all with the exception of the "old lady" trend. I like many older names. I also like Elise, Ruby, and Keira.

For boys I like very strong boys names (names that are undoubtedly for a boy). For a girl, I love boys names for girls - our original choice was Kennedy but it was stolen from us. Twice. We picked a boys name that is used as a girl's name but isn't popular yet - no one knows what it is since the other name was stolen. I also swing to the other side of the spectrum and love uber-femine names for girls (Lorelai; Carissa; etc.) but we didn't choose to go that route. Although the middle name is girly (Lauryn) - partly because we love it, partly because the name will be for my dad (Larry), partly because the first name is unisex, so we wanted something girly.
