No period, negative test, what gives?

This is my first time TTC and I am on month 4 of trying. Been off BC for 7 months and have a regular period within a day or two.  Currently 4 days late, took a test this morning and it was negative.  I'm just a little concerned as I have never been THIS late.  Any suggestions?  Should I wait a little longer or make an appointment with the doctor?

In all likelihood you didn't ovulate when you thought you did. You may want to consider temping and charting; it will eliminate any worries about whether or not you ovulated and if you will be "late" in the future. Definitely wait it out -- test 1x a week until you either get a BFP or your period. If you get to 60 days without either, then give your doc a call.

From what I've read in similar posts, you probably just O'd later than usual. 


TTC # 1 since Fall 2010.
Me 33, DH 34 (SA fine)
Lap April 2012=Stage IV Endo, Uterine and ovarian cysts.
Lupron injections x 3 months
Femara with u/s+trigger x3= BFN
Femara,follistim injections, trigger, 1st IUI=TBD

4 days is not that late.  If you get to CD60 without AF or a BFP then you can call the doctor.  Wonky cycles happen.

I recommend a book called Taking Charge of your Fertility.

Take a test once a week until you get your period.  If you go 60 days without a period, call your doctor.

I am in the same boat.  I am 6 days "late" with negative tests.  I figure I'll just keep humping it out and test a couple times a week until I get a positive, AF, or hit 60 days.  It is frustrating though.  I am planning to temp next cycle so I don't feel so in the dark.  Hang in there.

You're never late until you are.

Why won't you talk about ovulation?  If you ovulate later than normal, then your period will be later than normal.

You probably O'd late. Test once a week until AF shows up or until 60-days. After 60-days if you still have not got a BFP or AF then make an appointment.

 AF usually comes approximately 14 DPO. If you O'd late than you will get your period later. Please read up on your stuff before posting.

Everyone understands that you mean your period is late. If you aren't charting then you don't know when you ovulated. If you ovulated a little later than usual, then your period would occur later than you expect it.

Do you even know when you ovulated?  Because ovulation is directly releated to when you get AF.  If you O later than normal then AF comes later than normal.  but it doesnt mean you're "late."  Get it?

The previous posters understood that you meant your period is 4 days late.  What they're saying is that if you ovulated later than you normally do, then your period will come later.  It's possible you still haven't ovulated at all, therefore your period isn't really late.  Many women continue to have their "regular" cycles for months after coming off BCP and then have a wonky cycle... or 6.  There are women who have the traditional 28 day cycle and don't ovulate at all.  To learn more about how your body works, check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility, or Fertility Friend, or the newbie link at the top of this board.

I've found that understanding how my cycles work has really helped.  It's also saved a lot of money spent on pregnancy tests when I wasn't actually late.

That's what can make your period late. Ovulating late. It happens to everyone. All anyone is going to tell you has already been told. Test until positive or CD 60 with no AF.
Essentially it doesn't matter what we think anyway because we have nothing to do with your ovaries or uterus.

I was "never" late either, until I was last cycle for the first time. Got my period on Halloween, and didn't get it again till 5 days ago. I didn't ovulate until day 50 of my cycle, so my period didn't show up until day 65. I wasn't temping then either, but started up when I didn't get my period when I expected it to come. Didn't ovulate until over a week after that and I was able to catch it and confirm it happened by charting. Weird cycles happen. I learned the hard way why temping is so important, especially if you want to get pregnant...it takes away all the guesswork.

Your luteal phase is affected by your ovulation date. If you ovulate later than normal, you will have a longer cycle than normal, causing you to think your period is "late."  

I have been temping or being monitored by an RE for 18 cycles. The latest I have ever ovulated is day 17, until this month when I didn't ovulate until day 22. If I wasn't temping, I would think that my period is late, since this is the longest cycle I have ever had. You can check out my chart to see that I am actually only 13DPO.

Dx: PCOS & mild hypothyroidism (me) & MFI
2 cycles Femara + trigger = BFN/no response. 2 cycles Clomid + trigger = BFN
IUI # 1 = BFN
Repeat SA - low motility & morphology w/ 99% bound by antisperm antibodies
Recommendation: IVF w/ICSI
