How bad are your periods?

Just curious if you think this is normal....

Every CD1 as soon as I get my period I get really bad cramps. So bad I always have to stop what I'm doing, which includes leaving work, to go home, take 2 extra strength Advil, and rotate hot bath and heating pad for about 4 hours until the pain is gone. During this time I feel so nauseous, bloated, and I have diarrhea.

After about 4 hours or so of this, I feel fine and the rest of my period is pain-free.

What about you? Does your period stop you in your tracks?

I have a pretty heavy flow and get the bloatedness/diarrhea. I don't really have to stop what I'm doing, but I do sometimes use a heating pad the first or second day

You just described how my periods were in high school, but I would add vomiting to mine.

I was like that for two years until my Mom finally gave in and let me get BCPs. Haven't had the problem since.

Yes, plus a 3 day migraine typically.

ETA:  Some say theirs got better after BCP, mine did not.  I also have a prescription to help with the pain.

Yes, that was me before birth control. I had prescription pain killers to take the edge off. Then the migraine would start after the bleeding stopped. Since stopping birth control, I still get crampy but not nearly as bad. At least, not yet!

I have cramps in the few days leading up to AF that require a pain pill but now that I'm older, I deal with it. Once it comes, I have prescription pain pills that I take day 1 and 2 and otc motrin for day 3 and barely any pain for day 4-6.

Yes!  I have had rough periods ever since I was ten!  Bloating, cramps(so bad I feel like I can't move or get off toliet), headaches and back aches.  It got so bad that for awhile my OB recommended I take Naxproxen during my periods since advil liquid gels weren't cutting it for me.

Its been better since and after taking and then stopping bcp's.  Still it's rough sometimes and the advil liquid gels seem to cut it somewhat okay now.

Anyway, feel like I'm rambling, Sorry I can't offer a better cure!

Mine is always really bad in the beginning.  I get super bad cramps to the point where I have trouble focusing, so I'm worthless if I'm at work.  The cramps usually start right after I start bleeding, so now I know when to take pain meds.  If I don't jump on the pain and try to prevent it, then it's near impossible to get under control after it starts.  I usually just take 800mg ibuprofen and that makes them tolerable.  Luckily it's only bad the first day and they aren't accompanied with headaches/vomiting/etc.

I get "warning cramps" about 2-3 days before. Then usually the first 2 to 3 days my cramps are extra bad! I take 800 mg ibuprofen   for it and sometimes that doesn't work. If I don't take the  ibuprofen I usually end up in the fetal position. I've had to be picked up at work and drove home for it. I've rarely had vomiting with it. In Oct I was diagnosed with stage IV endometriosis, which is what causes the horrible cramps.

on CD1 I get the very bad bloated/crampy/gassy symptoms. If I take 2 midol that normally helps me out.

CD1 was like this for me for a few months when I switched from Depo to BCPs.   After coming off the BCPs, CD1 is nothing.  I might have a slight headache and some cramping, but nothing ibuprofen won't fix.

I get really horrible cramps as well as diarrhea. I've called in sick to work because of cramps a few times...I teach preschool so don't have a lot of "down time" to deal with cramping. A day before AF starts I get really bad aches in my upper thighs as well.

Similar.  In middle school & high school, I'd often have to stay home for the first day or two when AF showed up.  I notice that I get some mild cramping 24-48 hours before my period shows up, and then with the onset of the flow, cramps set in fast and heavy duty.  Can't sleep through them, rolling around and moaning in agony, can't focus on anything.  It really petrifies me for what labor will be like, since I imagine it'll be worse.

BC really helped a lot, and for about 8 months after going off birth control, it didn't hurt much.  Some moderate cramping, but an Advil really took the edge off.  This past cycle, the cramps set in really, really bad.  Like high school again.  I was miserable.

It's like extra punishment now.  Pain AND no pregnancy.  Hate visits from my dear Aunt Flo. At least when I was in college, I was glad that it meant I wasn't pregnant.  Now I'm bummed.  Will be great when she goes on a 9+ month vacation.

This sounds very similar to me. My diarrhea is not extremely intense but it is there. Cramps are usually gone after day one of AF.

Awful, awful periods since the very first one in sixth grade. Heavy bloat, flow, cramping, etc. I actually proved to my DH that I gain 5 lbs every month that disappear a couple days after I start. It's so weird.  That's what Endo and ovarian and uterine cysts will get you. I have literally passed out from a cyst before! Sweat completely through entire outfits from the pain during my period. And missed major holidays due to AF. I prepare for work and fight through it. And they last for a full seven days with most of the cramping over by day 4 or 5. I'm not sure what is causing your symptoms if its just for the first four hours. That's interesting.

I've been fairly lucky cramps wise, as they aren't too bad or painful for me.  However, when I was on BCP, I used to get a terrible migraine on the day of, or the day prior to my period.  That stopped as soon as I stopped taking BCP

Not quite as bad, but longer-lasting (two days of that crap). And sometimes it is that bad. I hate CD 1 so much for so many reasons. DH tells me not to test early but I think it can be good because if/when I do I can say "ok, I'm not pregnant" and get that over with, and then just deal with the physical pain of the pregnancy separately from the emotional let-down of no BFP.

Before having children, I would have minor cramping (think 1 or 2 on a scale of 10) for a day or two before CD1.  Then it was excruciating pain (10 or higher) on days 1 and 2, and maybe pain around a 5 on day 3.  The rest was pain free.  I would also have diarrhea and vomit (sometimes at the same time).  The only thing that worked for the pain was 800mg ibuprofen. And I struggle to swallow pills.  Definitely not fun.

After having children, things have gotten better.  Now, the pain doesn't start until CD1.  It lasts through day 2, but is usually gone by day 3.  And sometimes it's minor cramping and I don't need any pain medication.

Mine is painful the first day and a little of the second day but not debilitating. I've never left work because of it. I take meds and they don't really do much.. just takes the edge off. I just suffer through the pain. Because of the pain I'm a little snippy. Then I forget I'm even on my period because I totally forget due to no signs or symptoms.
