Baby Bump

I am roughly 16 weeks along and some (not all!) of my pants are starting to get tight.

I keep hearing that some people don't have a bump until 5 or 6 months - if that. Is anyone else out there showing so early? I don't think I"ve gained that much weight - not even a full 10 lbs yet but I feel so unattractive and worried that I'm putting on more weight than I should- that my increasing bump isn't baby, but weight gain :(

I have a natural bump there anyway thanks to genetics. It has never been terrible, but my 6 month pregnant SIL had a smaller bump than I did when I wasn't pregnant! So knowing that her 6 month bump was smaller than me before pg -  kind of eats at me because I'm 4 months roughly....

If your pants are tight then go to maternity pants. Don't compare your self to you SIL, everyone carries different.

With my first I didn't show until into my 5th month, but with this upcoming baby I started to show around 11 weeks. I was too stubborn to buy maternity clothes because I didn't feel I should have to yet. Instead I wore my SO's jeans and plain white tees. Finally he told me it wasn't such an attractive look, and to please get some new clothes. When I did give in and buy maternity clothes last week I was so pleased at how comfy they are that now I don't know how I went 6 weeks in boy jeans and tees!

The size of the bump is related to many factors: genetics, athleticism and so on. Be happy you are healthy and enjoy the extra attention a bump gets you!

I gave up on regular pants and have been wearing maternity leggings since like week 13, and definitely have a bump now at 21 weeks. I lost weight at first and have only gained 5 pounds total. I had a bit of a tummy before getting pregnant too.

Don't worry about being "too big" and definitely don't compare yourself to anyone else! Everyone is different. Your Birth Month Board probably has a Bump Day when everyone posts pictures of their tummies. If you look at those you'll see there is a HUGE variation in "normal". Some women get big right away, and some don't. It's all good!

Also, take a look at this website: http://www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/you/the-exhibit/your-beginning/make-room-for-baby/interactive/

You'll see that even at 16 weeks your baby is taking up a lot of room. Your bump is definitely not just weight gain at this point!

Exactly this. With my first I started showing at around 18 weeks, this time around people were commenting at 11 weeks Indifferent Right now I am bigger than a friend of mine who is 39 weeks Crying I try not to let it bother me, and I try not to compare. But I know it's hard not to.

I guess over the Christmas break my body changed enough for none of my work pants to fit anymore. I can wear them with the band but not zipped or buttoned. Sigh. I feel like it's too early for this but I know everyone is different and I just need to deal with it.

I just hope Gap maternity pants will fit well.

as the rest have said already, everyone is different. I am short with a short torso, I showed REAL early and got maternity pants and never looked back. It wasn't worth it to me to keep trying to stuff myself into my regular pants anymore!

Yes, it's normal for your pants to get tight at 16 weeks. Bumps develop at all different rates, so don't compare yourself to others or you'll go crazy. My cousin's wife had the exact same due date as me and she seriously did not show until month 8 or so. Meanwhile I felt like a whale. :)

As long as your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be. Just go with it!

Everyone's right. You can't compare yourself to others. I got my first pair of maternity jeans at 12 weeks. I wasn't showing but the tight jeans I had worn pre-pregnancy were too tight to wear anymore.

I'm not 5 months yet but I'm definitely showing. I'm darn glad I got those tummy panel jeans ;)

I definitely wouldn't worry about it. This is my first pregnancy, I'm only 15w2d and have been losing weight since I found out about the pregnancy but I have a considerable bump already! I'm also already feeling the baby once in awhile too! I've talked with my mom bc with all the readily available info on the internet and in books nowadays I felt like I was wrong about already having a bump and feeling the baby but she said that comparing myself to others or to statistics will make me crazy just relax and enjoy the experience of pregnancy and dont get so hung up on weight and whats supposed to be 'normal'. It helped me I hope maybe it will help you too! Oh and CONGRATS!!
