Most OBs won't give you another ultrasound unless there's a reason to.

not if there's no need to. If your dr thinks baby is breeched, you may, but otherwise, nope :)

My doc only does one at 20 weeks unless something is wrong.  My insurance company will only pay for one unless there are complications anyway.  While I miss seeing pics of my DS, I am glad that I haven't had to have more than one.  Last time I had to get several due to different issues.

Probably not unless you opt for an elective u/s.

Consider yourself lucky; typically if there is another u/s after 20 weeks, it's because the doctors are concerned about something.

Depends on the OB. Mine did another one at about 35 weeks. He said it was to check fluid levels and give us a sneak peek.

ETA: I should add that I have had absolutely no complications throughout the pregnancy, and neither the nurses or ladies scheduling the ultrasound seemed concerned or confused as to why I was having one. They all just called it the "sneak peek" so it seems that they do it regularly.

Is there an elective u/s place in your area? I went to one so that I could find out the gender early.

My OB won't do another unless I have a complication, so I am hoping to not have another.

With my last pregnancy I had a dating ultrasound, one at 12 weeks, one at 20 weeks, and then one at the end to check size and positioning.  Everything was normal with that pregnancy.

This time I am kind of tired of having so many ultrasounds.  I am going in for my 5th tomorrow and will probably have at least one or two more before it's all over.  Baby boy has a kidney issue and I'm having contractions.

We had one at the very beginning of my pregnancy to date it and make sure I wasn't having multiples since I had Hyperemesis (severe morning sickness) and multiples were more likely. We still haven't had our anatomy scan so hopefully we'll get that in (I started the process of switching care providers at 19 weeks and have my first appointment with the new ones this Friday), but that might not even happen at this point. I know last time around we didn't get another U/S past the 20 week.

Most likely not. My OB ordered a growth u/s at 33 weeks because my fundal height was measuring small. Otherwise we wouldn't have had any past the anatomy scan.

Be grateful you don't have to have any more. It means you are having a healthy pregnancy. I am going in for my 19th (yes, 19) ultrasound tomorrow. Sounds fun? It's not. I wish I could just have a normal pregnancy.

Yep. And personally I'm against elective u/s. I see u/s as something that is a medical tool and isn't for entertainment but that's just me. Also, I think the money could be used for something better but again that's just me...

My OB does not do one after 20 weeks unless there is a medical reason. I ended up with one yesterday because I have had decreased fetal movement and the results from the NST they did were not good. I would rather have a perfectly smooth pregnancy than another u/s.

I had one at 38 weeks with DS2 to make sure the head was down and we honestly could not see anything cause he was so big.

I don't know if it's different at an elective place.

She couldn't really zoom out enough for us to see his profile or anything and since it wasn't 3D there wasn't too much to gawk over.  So you are not missing much in my opinion : )

I just had one done today for the very same reasons!

With a completely normal pregnancy they will typically only do 1 more at the very end to make sure baby is in the right position. My OB told me it would be around 37 weeks.

This was my experience as well (both times so far).

I had two last week (at 27 weeks) - a complimentary 3D one the hospital does for keepsake photos, and another to check for kidney stones. Since he was right next to my bladder, I got to see him, too.

It's fun to see him in there, but I'd rather have a problem-free pregnancy! :)

At my doctor's office, they do an ultrasound at 36 weeks to estimate the baby's size at full term.  I would definitely ask your doctor at your next appt!

I didnt think I'd have another one since everything is normal but at my last appt my doctor was like, "do you want me to listen to the heartbeat with the doppler or want to take a quick peek with the US machine since no one is using it today?"

I was excited. We literally just took like a 2 minute peek but it was fun to see that everything was ok....so ya never know?

I'll get one more at 32 weeks but only because there is concern about my placenta and scar tissue. I had just one my last pregnancy.
