Horrible lower back pains...advice please

Hello all...I am 33 wks and 5 days. I just started having these horrible lower back pains...like menstrual but worse...they have been coming off and on for about 2 hrs but it hasn't been a consistent pain. It keeps coming and going. Are these Braxton Hicks are real contractions or normal back pains

Don't think BH has anything to do with the back, just the tightening of the front part where baby is

You need to call your dr now.  Those aren't BH.  Seriously, call now.

BH refer to the tightening of your uterus, but if it's your back, it doesn't sound like that.

It sounds like normal back pain to me, or maybe even a pinched nerve (sciatic nerve pain is a biitch!) If I were you, I'd try and do some stretches to relieve any tension. (Google them if you are not sure what to do)

If you're concerned, call your doctor.

I would start by taking a warm bath.  If it doesnt help go see your doctor to make sure it's not something else.

Yeah...you scared me so I did...lol...I spoke to the nurse practitioner and she said next time check and see if my uterus is tightening also (I couldn't tell because the back pain is getting more severe). She's going to call the OB on call and call me back...and here comes the pain again...I'm praying its nothing serious because she's not done cooking yet :(

I'm sure that everything is fine. Getting rhythmic pains checked out is never a bad thing, either way.

Keep an eye on it and call your doctor if you have any concerns.

I know everyone is different but I started having bad back pains around 33 weeks also. It turned out just to be the pressure of the baby and the new weight on my body. Warm baths and heating pads help to relieve it. Stretching does too. I did some prenatal yoga videos that were On-Demand that helped.

Feel better mama!

I'm glad you called.  I didn't mean to scare you, but it doesn't sound like BH, it sounds like possible back labor.  But again, it might be nothing.  Keep us posted!

I'm curious what your on-call OB said? I am almost 35wks and all morning had the same pain you described. I never got a chance to call my dr this morning, and then after lunch it wasn't bothering me as much. I tried a heating pad after I first woke up, that helped a little. I also had nausea all morning, which also subsided by lunch time. I have been getting BH contractions all day, more than I normally get.

The weird part for me is that I just had an u/s and dr appt yesterday and while my dr does think I will deliver early, the baby has not yet dropped and my cervix is still closed. I guess that's why I didn't really think I could be going into labor one day later.

Have you felt sick along with your back pain? Pelvic pressure, or any indication your baby has already dropped? Do you get a lot of BH normally?

Why does your doctor think that you'll deliver early?

I don't know for sure but I was experiencing the same thing and wrote it off as back pain... Come to find out my back pain and dull period cramps are indeed contractions. Not sure if they're BH because I'm not progressing at all, but they are getting more intense an closer together. Try a heat pad or warm shower and see if it helps. GL!

She asked if I was experiencing tightness in my uterus area also (lower than the belly button) which I couldnt really tell so I said no. She told me to try taking some tylenol. I had laid down by then so the intensity started to subside. She said if it was stillbothering me and I couldn't sleep to call back. I did wake up a few times during the night with pain but it wasn't as bad as before so I did my best to go back to sleep in between the pain. It is hurting again this morning but not as bad but I will call my OB if it gets worse throughtout the day. I didn't have any nausea (and haven't had any throughout the pregnancy unless I didn't eat). I definitely have been having pelvic pressure but I don't think she has dropped. I typically dont get BH so I wasn't sure what I was feeling. I've had it once and that was at about 6 mos.

If you find that it's not related to contractions, I would suggest a warm bath, heating pad, and a chiropractor visit. I also found that sitting in a recliner was way more comfortable than anything else. Those are the only things that help me!
