Disappointed - Had to take DD's earrings out

DD is 9.5 months old.  I had her ears pierced almost 4 months ago and we keep having issues with her earrings, particularly the right one.  It has gotten infected twice and this morning there was dried up blood all around it.  I took both earrings out to have a look and they still don't look healed.  I did everything I was supposed to do and I followed all instructions for how to care for them.  I don't know what happened.

I took them both out, cleaned them out with alcohol and treated both earlobes with antibiotic ointment.  I decided to leave the earrings out to see if that helps them heal.  I know they will probablly close up though.  :-(  At this point I think I will wait until she's older (5 or 6) to get them repierced.  I'm disappointed but it's frustrating to keep going through this 4 months later.

Do you think she was allergic to them? Where did you get them done?  I had DD's pierced last Friday at her pediatrician's office and so far things are looking good and healing well.

This is one of the reasons we didn't get DD's ears pierced.  I got mine done for the first time at 11 and they never really healed.  I got them done again at 21 and they still never healed.  I had three sets of holes in my ear lobes, took them out shortly after DD was born (I had them for at least 7yrs) and within a month the top two sets had closed completely.  I think the only reason the bottom holes didn't close is because I had them gauged a little.

Honestly these type of these things happen.  I'm assuming OP, that you used either gold or some other type of material good for sensitive ears.  Some babies/people are just allergic or can't tolerate pierced ears.  My ears have always been really sensitive and I've had mine pierced since I was a few months old too.

I would do the same and just let them heal and try later if she wants.  I would be disappointed too but she probably won't even mind until later :)

We originally had them pierced with stainless steel earrings by a pediatrician (our pediatrician doesn't pierce ears but we found one in town that does).  3 weeks ago we changed them and put in 14k gold earrings.  We've just had so many issues with them.  I thought it might be better with the 14k gold but nope.  I'm Cuban so all baby girls have their ears pierced so it is frustrating.  Oh well.      It will be a relief to not have to worry about her ears all the time now though.

My friend had this issue as well and was religious about cleaning them. She decided to stop cleaning and messing with them so much and when she did that they cleared up and look great now.

My daughter has eczema and I want to do her ears so bad but I'm nervous she won't tolerate them.
