Dr follow-up- a little discouraging

I wanted to thank those of you who made me less nervous about seeing my doctor in regards to my potentially short LP.

My gyno is not an OB, so I wasnt sure how this would go, and although I really like her, it just confirms that I need to go see a OBGYN even though I am not due for an annual exam (and I feel a little silly setting up an appt since I am not pregnant yet).

I brought my temp chart as well as tracking with OPKs and the CBFM which all indicate my LP started at around 5-6 days and at longest have made it to 10 days over 6 months. I basically just wanted a progesterone test after ovulation just to see if there is an issue or not- no harm in just getting blood work. She basically indicated I shouldnt track too much and that ovuation times can vary cycle to cycle (which I totally get, but I have researched that LP shoudnt vary and shouldnt be too short, unless I am understanding that wrong). She also said she wasnt sure what blood work to order to be sure, since she isnt an OB anymore, so to give it a few months and then we can see.

I think its great she is laid back and honest and I prefer she doesnt order things she isnt comfortable with, but its a little frustrating. I think I will just see how this month goes and if LP is still 10 days or less, I will see if I can find an OB and just see what they think too. I know she said not to get too worked up or temp, etc, but I think I will continue to do so for a few reasons- H and I are very busy w work so I like to be able to nail down a time to BD or it wont happen and also I want to make sure I am ovulating or otherwise it would explain the varied LP.

Do u think waiting another month or two makes sense? I could follow up with an OB or PCP this month and insist on the post-O blood work (Im only at day 8 of my cycle now) but Im not sure what would be best- I just dont like losing time :) I could also have my sister who is a doctor order my blood work, but we are trying not to tell anyone we are TTC since we want to keep it private.

TIA!

I am a newbie and I don't know much of anything about the post O testing stuff, sorry.
My question is how on earth are you going to know how long your LP is if you aren't temping?

That was my thought- temping or using OPKs- I agree using them too much can be a little stressful, but otherwise I wont know how to time sex or know how long my LP is or if I really ovulated. So I will stick with it for now. I do think this month though, we are just gonna BD every other day from day 10-20 to make it easier and see how it goes.

I was referring to her doctor's recommendation that she stop temping.

It's time for a new doctor. You liking her is not going to get you pregnant of fix you LP defect. If you've found a reaccuring problem it needs to be looked at by someone who is qualified.

Exactly- thats why I said I would be finding an actually OB to start seeing. I was just wondering if it makes the most sense to see how this cycle goes and then make the appt for next cycle or try to get an appt this week so I can get an OB to order the labs post-O?

On average, if you are not pregnant, but just switching doctors, does it take a long time to get an appt with an OB?

Shouldn't you look for an RE?  OB's are best once you're pregnant...

Well RE's wont see you until after a year I thought. So I doubt after 6 months one would see me. I just want a doctor to test my progrestrone at 7 days post ovulation to see if I even have an issue. If my current gyno wont, since I have to get an OB anyway at some point- I was going to switch to an OBGYN and have them look at the issue. From what other people posted, their regular OBGYN was able to test for LDP so I figured this would be the best route, but please let me know if thats incorrect

I would make an appt with the new obgyn now...get the test and resulted..then if they want to track you for a couple of months fine, but no wasted time...you feel theres a problem..its nothing wrong with a second opinion...

Thanks - I guess I just feel weird calling for the appt- like what do I say, my normal doctor isnt an OB and I think I have an issue, but she doesnt agree? I know I need to make the appt, I guess I just feel weird- Im not trying to throw the other doctor under the bus, but I would like a second opinion. It would be easier if I was due for my annual exam and approached it that way, but it isnt.

Thanks for all the opinions- its so helpful to have ppl to talk to see we arent telling anyone we are TTC :)

You're not throwing her under the bus, she no longer practices within the scope of things that you need.

So, it comes down to that your current doctor is no longer an OB, so you need a OBGYN anyway. Plus, you can say that due to this change, she does not feel comfortable doing those tests in the scope of her license/practice. Therefore, you need an OBGYN that can assist you with a few concerns.

with that many months of short LPs you should definitely get tested. So I guess that means calling a new person.

I would call and soon. Some OBs can take some time to get in to see for non-pregnancy appointments. I wouldn't wait for another cycle when you have a known issue. Ask her about taking B6 (my dr approved it for me, though didn't think it would do anything, but it has helped). Any OB can do a 7 DPO test. Good luck!
