BF moms who have had their first daycare visit...

My LO is almost 9 weeks, and will have her first day at daycare tomorrow for about 5 hours.   For the past week I have been having a breakdown at the thought of leaving her.  I am so paranoid that she will just cry the whole time, will refuse her bottles, will hate me the next day ugghh. LO is in a fussy phase right now, sometimes only the boob will calm her down:(  I never thought I'd be this sort of mom, so anxious to leave her alone, but this will be the longest I've ever been away from her.  I know I need to do this and just get it over with, but I'm not sure how much work I'll actually get done.

She will be just fine. You have to follow your gut feeling and if you were happy when visiting the place, I'm sure LO will be happy as well.

I'm sorry.  :(  I know the encouraging thing would be to tell you it will be fine (which it will, for her) and it will get better, but I was a wreck when DS went into daycare.

I cried for like the first week he was in daycare.  I eventually dropped to only two days per week and now when I go back to work it will be only PRN or as needed.  To be totally honest, it never got better for me, I always missed him so much and had a really tough time, which told my husband and I that we needed to get our finances in order so I could work less.

I hope the day goes okay for you and it does start to get better for you.

This is me exactly.  I still have 5 more weeks of maternity leave, but I'm already so anxious thinking about it.  I haven't been away from DS for more than an hour since he's been born.  I'm anxious about pumping enough milk.  Will he cry for me the whole time.  The only thing that calms my ds down is the boob as well.  I hate the though of leaving him alone with strangers all day.  He's going to hate me Sad

This was me with DS1. I was panic-stricken in the weeks before going back to work. What helped me was to know that I trust the daycare person, and that they sincerely have my kid's best interest at heart. Did it suck anyway? YES. Did it eventually get easier to leave? YES. Now he's almost 2 and loves daycare. And it'll suck the first few days leaving DS2, but I know he's in good, caring hands, and that she'll let me know if he's not doing well with it, and we'll re-evaluate from there. Just know that it'll be harder on you than it is on him (which, strange to say, is comforting). Good luck. You both will do great!

I understand... I never thought I would be that type of mom too until karma bit me in the a$$ last week when I dropped off my 11wk old at daycare for the first time.  I was suppose to be at work by 9am but cried so much and couldn't let him go that I was so late!  I really do love my job (and need it financially), but I have doubts all the time now about leaving him still.  I think this will pass.  There were other moms there that were terribly supportive and so nice to me.  I hope if you get teary eyed tomorrow, there will be other moms there to lend that support to you!  G'luck!

You're totally normal! I (as well as most of my friends with LOs) cried the first time their LO went to daycare. Don't worry, she will be fine. Since she is young she is likely to adapt much better to daycare than an older kid would. Plus, the daycare staff are with babies all the time, so they are probably experts at calming a fussy baby. Try not to worry. Best of luck!
