Unexpected guests at shower

I got a phone call from one of my hostesses a day or so ago, and she told me that she was expecting around 70 people at my shower this Saturday! This suprised me, because I my guest list was about that big (DH and I both have big families and are very close with them) and I hardly expected everyone to be able to make it.

So she tells me that she was contacted by some of the women my mom used to work with- my mom passed away this past September from Leukemia- and they asked to be invited! I couldn't believe it! I was shocked and humbled that they wanted to be a part of my shower, and proceeded to ugly cry for a good half hour after I got off the phone with her. I do know some of the women who asked to come (some I am "friends" with on FB) but some I don't even know (aside from meeting them once or twice). I am not by any means complaining, just so totally suprised that my mom meant so much to these women that they want to come celebrate my baby. I always knew what an amazing person my mom was, but this is just overwhelming. Gonna start crying again now...

I think this is a good thing- as long as your host has the capacity and $$, then go for it. These women were obviously touched by your mom- and want to honor your mom by celebrating the life of your LO. I'm sure it'll be a very emotional situation, but maybe you could make a few closer friends out of it.

Well that's a feel-good!  Your mother must have left quite a lasting impression, and I am sure it's moments like these that you could share with her!

Sorry for the loss of your mom.  They obviously throught a lot of your mom.  It was very thoughtful of them and also your hostess who was OK with the extra people.
