This group is open to anyone who has Diminished Ovarian Reserve or Premature Ovarian Failure (sometimes also called Primary Ovarian Insufficiency – POI). 

 

This check-in will be posted each Wednesday.  If you’d like to be added to this group, please reply to this message, and I’ll make sure to add you for next week.  Welcome to the lurkers!  We know this can be a difficult journey, but we welcome you with open arms.  Let us know if we can answer any questions.

Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process?

 

QOTW: Welcome to 2013! A new year with new possibilities and the chance to wipe the 2012 slate clean. Tell us about your plans for 2013 as far as treatments go. Are you planning on doing a few IUIs then moving to IVFs? Doing IVF with your OE and then moving to DE or adoption? Do you not have a plan and you’re just going to wing it?

Hi Cee! I hope you're doing well.

We are officially a GO for IVF#1 in February (see badge, yay!). We reviewed the stats with our RE and for the number of eggs she expects to get (5-8), the chances are around 30% which is not *great* but not as bad as we thought.

I'm currently waiting for FF to confirm ovulation (got a +OPK yesterday), then I order meds and we set up a time to meet with the IVF coordinator nurse and do a medication 'class'.

Excited, but nervous too!

QOTW: We're trying not to jump too many steps ahead - IVF#1 is on our radar now and we'll see how that goes. If my response is crap, we'll probably move onto donor eggs and/or adoption but if response is ok and we still get a BFN, we might give it another shot or two. Ouch, my wallet hurts thinking about it!

I got my calendar! I started Lupron on Sunday, and my DEmbryo FET is scheduled for Feb 8th! I am so excited My first monitoring appointment is Jan 18th and I start estrogen on Jan 19th.

Our Februrary FET is as far into the future of treatments as I am allowing myself think. We have five donor embryos, and I'm praying that if for some awful reason this FET fails, that we will have others that survive for a second attempt. If not, I will be devastated beyond words. I'm not sure where we go next but it's just too hard to think about. I've built a relationship with our donors and I'd be so incredibly sad on that level amongst a billion others. I'd need some time to regroup with DH and decide where to go next.

3/27/13 - No heartbeat at 9w0d. D&C the following day.

4/23/13 - Matched to adopt five new embryos!

Hey Ladies,

I started stims last Friday. I am was on clomid for cylce days 2-7. Started Menopur on cycle day 3 - 300 units/daily. I went in for my day 6 u/s and blood work. I have more follies than I have in the past. As of now, they are all under 10cm - I think that is okay at this point. 

Here is a petty complaint/vent about my Dr.'s office. Usually they are pretty on top of things. There are two new receptionists. They didn't have me on the schedule this morning. Then I went down to the lab to get my blood drawn, they had the wrong test ordered (CBC instead of Estradiol). The only reason we caught it was because my nurse came down to the lab to ask me a question. She saw the label and told them about the mistake.  So I had to get blood drawn twice. Then today when my nurse called with my follow-up instructions - she told me to continue Lupron in the morning and menopur at night.  Hello!?!  I am not on Lupron this cycle.  She also failed to tell me when to come back in for monitoring.  This is not making me feel overly confident in this whole situation.  It is really not a big deal. Just more annoying than anything else.

I did have a phone consult with an RE in California. He did his training at Cornell and so has experience with DOR/Poor responders.  He had my charts so he could see my previous response to treatments. He said that me was encouraged at my estrogen levels and ability to produce "some" eggs. He said that he would probably use a slightly different protocol, maybe BCPs or estrogen before my cycle. He also mentioned the use of Growth Hormone - but that it is hard to come by? That sounded odd to me. Does anyone know about Growth Hormone w/DOR? Anyway - I did like him. I think if things don't work out with the current plan, we could seek treatment there.

QOTW - No more wasting time! Egg retrieval this month - hopefully we'll have enough to work with. Fertilize and do embryo transfer ASAP (feb/march). If no luck - probably switch clinics.

Me:38 - TTC for 3+years - Multiple failed IUIs (w/clomid, femara,injectibles - all BFNs) IVF #1 - Jan 2012, CP -IVF#2 March 2012, CP - Went back to IUIs all summer. Multi-Cycle Egg banking for FET. Egg retrieval #1 October, 2 frosties. Retrieval#2 January 2013. 6 eggs banked - waiting to be fertilized in March, FET March! FET - cancelled because zero eggs survived thaw process. April IUI, BFP - Beta #1 - 43, Beta #2 - 78, Beta #3 dropped, another CP. May IUI with Femara.

Liz4paws - I have my FX for you too! FWIW, my clinic said they have 80-100% success rates with DE and DEmbryo cycles. So stay positive!

Darby - I have not heard of growth hormone, but I am on an estrogen priming protocol and I think that is common for poor responders.

Status Update:  CD1 was yesterday, starting BCP's tonight.  Waiting on calendar which was mailed out yesterday.  Received Lupron in mail today and awaiting follistim/menopur/hcg package next week.  Med class and consent signing on 1/16.  I have a sono scheduled for Tuesday 1/15, and a mock transfer scheduled for 1/17.  3 days in a row for RE visits- yay! :P

QOTW: Hmm... i have no idea what we're doing in 2013. We're hopeful this will have to be our only IVF but since you never know, I'm hopeful that if this does not work that we will have frosties and do a FET in April.  After that who knows!  I'm hoping that 2013 will bring me a baby/some babies by November! :)

Update: We had our transfer of 2 on 12/13. First beta at 8dp5dt was 12. Second one came back at 78 (11dp5dt) and then third was 282 (14dp5dt). I have an u/s scheduled on 1/14 and I am anxious for that because I am worried due to the low betas and the fact that I have like zero symptoms.

QOTW: If this cycle ends up being a bust we will go back and do another cycle - we have 3 tries. If all those fail then we will probably wait until next year before trying again. Hopefully that doesn't happen!

I started estrogen last week and am going in tomorrow for my SHG and ET trial. I'm not sure why they wanted to do it so early, but I'm fine with it. BCP will start in February.

QOTW: We will be doing our first IVF this spring in hopes for a ET in May due to the lengthy PGS testing. Depending on how I respond, we will look to do another IVF with my own eggs or have the conversation about DE/adoption. The only conversation we've had at this point beyond IVF with my own eggs is that we are both open to it and want to discuss further. Like PP said...it makes my wallet really hurt!!

Darby - I will be doing a growth hormone with my cycle as well. RE said recent research has shown that it can improve IVF with DOR patients. Hopefully with the estrogen priming protocol (will be on it 1 1/2 months before BCP), growth hormone, PGS testing...we will have the best chance possible. Not to mention I'll have been on DHEA among other supplements for 3 months or so before BCP. FX!

Hi everyone!
I like reading where everyone is at on these checkins, and because I am in Canada our process is a bit different so I like hearing how different clinics approach DOR.

Status update: in IUI2 cycle, with femara and a plan for a trigger shot. Doing better this cycle so far, except for some emotional stuff I think is related to the femara, and a headache from it. But I have cut the acupuncture and reduced all other appts so am less stressed this time around.

QOTW: our plans for 2013 include two more iui cycles for me, with femara or clomid and then a big discussion if they don't work.... I don't think I have the stamina to go on forever with the monitoring process so I think we will either switch to attempting iui on my DP, or trying an ivf cycle with her eggs.

That said, we are still waiting on results from my genetic tests and a consult about my autoimmune antibodies so if either of those show a major highrisk we may just pull the plug on getting me pg all together and move on to my DP. That would be sad, and hard to process for me, but the choice that makes the most sense for us....
Same sex couple - 31 years old - donor sperm, carrying our first due to dx of DOR/POF in Nov. 2012.

Low AMH, AFC - 6, Normal FSH, SS-A (RO) Antibodies (Autoimmune issues), tubes clear

IUI# 1 - December 19 - Done too early (24-36hrs before Ovulation) - BFN

IUI# 2 - January 16 - Femara + HCG trigger - BFN

IUI# 3 - March - 150-225iui Puregon, stimmed 16 days with only 1 follicle - nearly missed surge so no trigger - Progesterone - BFN.

IUI # 4 - "Pokey-Pokey" April 9 - 100mg Clomid CD 3-7, HCG Trigger + Progesterone - 2 follicles! IUI done after one O'd and before the 2nd one did. - BFN

...Moving on to trying to get my Partner pregnant with donor sperm. Hoping to come back and try with me, or do IVF with my DP's eggs eventually. My nerves are too frazzled for now

Hi all,

I didn't know this group existed, but I'm so glad it does.  I'm sorry that everyone is going through this but I am excited to see success stories with DOR.  My AMH is (.3).  I started stims on Monday for IVF #1 this month. 

QOTW: We'll see how this IVF goes!!

Thanks for the welcome :)

Status Update: In the 2WW of our last cycle before we start treatments (had to wait until after 1/1 for insurance reasons). Working on finishing off FMLA paperwork for intermittent leave for monitoring appointments and frustrated because HR didn't tell me the entire process was changing 1/1 so everything I did already is useless.

QOTW: We're starting off with Clomid + trigger + IUI. If no success after three tries then my RE recommends IVF w/ ICSI and PGD. We plan to get a second opinion before moving to IVF, just for our own peace of mind. I also meet with a geneticist at the end of the month to find out if they think I need additional genetic testing; if something shows up on those labs we will re-evaluate our plans as well.

Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process?

 

I am on day 6 of stims (300 iu follistim am and pm, plus micro-Lurpon and micro-hCG). I had a follie check this morning and I have 7 follies between 9mm- 12mm. I think 7 is about the best that we can hope for.

 

I am waiting to hear on my E2. On Monday it was 180. I go back in for another follie check on Friday but they think retrieval will be on Tuesday.

Are you planning on doing a few IUIs then moving to IVFs? Doing IVF with your OE and then moving to DE or adoption? Do you not have a plan and you’re just going to wing it?

 

We are trying our first IVF with OE my RE is curious to see how I respond and the quality of my eggs. Hopefully this cycle will work and we won't have to worry about a next cycle.  

 
Me: 33, Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, DOR (AMH .35), DH: 38, Borderline low morph
5/09- Off BCP, 5/09-9/09- No period, 9/09-9/10- Lots of Tests & accupuncture
10/10 and 11/10- 2 rounds of Menopur + TI= BFNS
12/10-IUI #1 Menopur = BFN
1/11- IUI #2 Menopur = BFP, 2/11 missed mc at 9 weeks, D&C
5/11- Operative Hysteroscopy to remove uterine septum
6/11- IUI #3 Menopur = BFP, 8/11 missed mc at 11 weeks, D&C
1/12- Lap and Operative Hysteroscopy to remove uterine septum (again) & scar tissue
2/12- Stint Removal, 3/12 repeat SHG and HSG- showed scar tissue blocking right tube
4/12- Operative hysteroscopy (again), RE said he can now see right tube (yay!)
5/12- Stint removal, 6/12 repeat SHG and HSG-both tubes are open!
8/12- IUI #4 Bravelle = BFN
9/12-IUI #5 Bravelle = BFN
1/13- IVF #1, micro-flare protocol, 7R, 6F, 5dt of 2 AA embryos, 1 to freeze = BFP
Beta #1: 176, Beta #2: 422, EDD 10/8/13- it's TWINS!

Congrats everyone with great news.!
Went to the RE Monday and begged to be put on the schedule ASAP but low and behold I'm put off because they are too busy! Wtf I paid in full last April and totally getting screwed around. So anyhow we start BCP march 15th and begin lupron on apr 1st. We are doing antagonist and hopefully will get plenty of eggs to work work with this time. What we know from my last IVF is that my egg quality is good and that of a 32 yr old but I don't have many left! Hopefully we can get in out if me this time. But gosh I have to wait the rest of jan all of feb and march before I even begin stims !!! Ok maybe this is all for a reason I'm ment to wait so time to think positive.

FX for you Cee.. hope the u/s shows a strong heart rate!

I start gonal-f tonight.  300 units of gonal-f at night and 300 menopur in the morning.  I go back for bw Sunday. incredibly anxious.

If this cycle doesn't work, we will move on to a donor egg cycle.  If that doesn't work we will move onto adoption.. Although I just received some literature and although I know domestic adoptions are expensive, I still had sticker shock...Praying this 5th time will be the charm!  FX for all of us that this will be our year!

IVF #5 final with o/e. ER 1/21 only 1 retrieved, hoping my lonestar is the one. Beta #1 2/6/13 = 209.... please let this be it! Keep growing lonestar! Beta #2 2/8/13 - 586! , Beta #3 2/10/13 = 1898. First u/s perfect little heart beat at 116 bpm. Measure 6 weeks 1 day. EDD 10/14/13 3/4/13 measuring right on track beautiful heartbeat 171 bpm, graduated from RE to OB... bittersweet. PAIF/SAIF always welcome!

Me- AF arrived today and baseline for me and donor is on Friday. Hoping we both get cleared and she will start stims. This is our final DE attempt. We will be CFNBC if this cycle is a bust. I feel like it is 4th and down with 3 seconds on the clock...

Congrats Cee!!! I am excited for you! 

Our 5th IUI with Bravelle was a bust : *( I really had my hopes up because he said on the ultrasound that I had 3 good follicles.  My E2 level was 1252!  and my husbands sperm count was great!!  I don't understand how it could go wrong!  We have to take a break for a little bit and save up money and pay off the existing bills that are rolling in from lab work and ultrasounds. In the meantime I may get a second opinion.   I just feel broke and helpless.  This process would be soo much easier if I lived in a state with better coverage : (  .. If we do IVF it may only be one soo I don't know if I may just go straight to donor eggs soo I have a higher chance with my one and only chance at it!  I don't know : (  My husband is not okay with that yet.

TTC SINCE 7/2010, BFP-10/2010 ended in miscarriage 11/2010 : (.....
Progesterone level 4/2011= 11.29. SA normal. HSG normal.
8/11 Clomid 50mg=BFN progesterone level 35,

5/8/12-Diagnostic Laparoscopy-found minimal endometriosis and small fibriod.
June and July-much needed break
August-Bravelle 75 with IUI#3- BFN
September-Bravelle injects with IUI #4-BFP!! M/C 10/7/12 : ( Sonohysterogram-Normal
December- Bravelle(3 good follicles & E2 1252) with IUI#5 BFFN :*( Currently on a break..deciding what to do next while trying to save money for another round of whatever we decide

QOTW: We are currently beginning our IVF #4 with a new RE. We paid for two Fresh cycles, but hoping it only takes one. We're doing the MDL protocol and yesterday at baseline showed 12 antral follicles. Best of luck to everyone.
