Shoes? What to do?

Hello everyone! My son will be 10 months old in a few days. He started walking and taking his first steps a little over a month ago. Now he walks all time time, he rarely crawls anymore. Now its to the point where he wants to walk everywhere. Should I get him shoes and if so what kind??

Reason why I dont know what to do is because I was told not to get him shoes at this age just so the muscles in his feet and ankles can strengthen. All the websites I looked at say to wait when he is older and walking almost 100% of the time. But he is walking almost 100% of the time! He is just a young walker I guess. Anyone else having their little ones wearing shoes yet?

I dont need him wearing shoes all the time but when he is walking outside, I would like him to have some protection besides socks

Stride Rite has 3 stages for their shoes.  A soft leather for the first few months, a flexible shoe for the early walkers and a hard bottom shoe for when they start running around.

I tried to get my daughter the 2nd stage shoe, but they didn't have any in stock at the store.  I eneded up getting a pair from Target that were flexible, but solid on the bottom.

I think when they start walking (inside more than likely) they need the bottoms of the feet free to help "grip" the floor and balance and all that. That being said, if your LO has been walking around for a while, on his own, I would definitely get him a pair of shoes for at least outside. We got DD1 walkers from Stride Rite when she started walking unassisted at around 11 months or so. They were the plain, white, high top shoes that look like the ones our parents made us wear. She wore them outside and at DC.

I like the Smaller line by See Kai Run for early walkers. They have a combination leather and rubber sole so it's great for early walkers but adds a little bit of protection from the elements.

I would get him some shoes. DS is an early walker and is just starting to cruise. He is having trouble taking steps/standing because he curls his toes and tries to tip-toe. I have him wear shoes when he is practicing with the push toy, to keep his foot in the proper position and it is helping. I would definitely want him wearing shoes outside. Have him fitted at a shoe store. I did and DS was a 4 wide. We bought these:

What about some Robeez or the cheaper ones from target, I think they are called mini stars. They have a leather sole but are not hard. They aren't super warm or waterproof but they are soft.

Dito what to oliversmommy32912. We have Robeez and they are great. They don't change his natural gate at all and since they are all leather it doesn't restrict his food from forming to the floor naturally. Also he can't take them off and they must be comfortable because he doesn't try to like he did with other shoes. Big Fan!!

I love the ministars at Target. They have ones called expedition I think that have a better sole for walkers but it's still soft. Plus they are super cute and only $19.99.

I think those are still too stiff for a new walker or any kid under 15 months or so. DD2 has been walking for 3 months and still walks best in Robeez, Ministars and the like.

We got our 11mo old robeez. They are great for the transition from crawling to walking. And even better for once they start walking. Just keep in mind they are indoor shoes.
