Clomid and Metformin - has this combo worked for anyone?

Hi Everyone, I have been trying to get pregnant now for 2 years - my doc has made sure my tubes are open through HSG, it seems like I ovulate according to (OPK's, temps and ultrasounds), my husband has a good sperm count and I have NO idea what is wrong with us! I have done a few rounds of clomid and nothing! My doc just gave me 2000mg of Metformin to take with my clomid this month - I am not PCOS so I am not sure if this well help me or not? Has anyone had any luck with this getting pregnant?

There's a lot of success stories on the Pregnant after IF board.  Maybe cross post over there to see if anyone has been in your situation?  Here most people are doing IUI's/IVF and have not yet had success.

I have heard metformin can be helpful for pcos but am not sure the reasoning your dr. put you on it.  I was on it for insulin resistance years ago and it did not help me with my clomid cycles or IUI's however each person reacts differently.  Lots of luck to you!

Hello! I am Dxed with PCOS but also a full figured girl.  I have extremely irregular cycles and often only ovulate 3-4x a year.  I took 2000mg of metformin and ovulated on it after 6 weeks without any stimulation.  Ovulated in a timely manner with the metformin & clomid mix.  Conceived but it didn't stick :-(  IUI next month - but at least we know the cocktail works!

The only recommendation I can make to you, in addition to watching your carbs and switching to whole grain, is if you're going to take Clomid for multiple cycles you want to make sure you're going to a doctor that does "clomid check sonograms."  I took clomid (alone) from my Ob 2x and both times I didn't ovulate.  I went to a specialist 1x, did the cocktail and it worked!  However, when they checked my ovaries after having taken the clomid, they found a cyst, which is a common side effect due to clomid.  These cysts are estrogen fed, so had they NOT checked and continued me on clomid the following month, it could have burst.  You should be having sonograms to check the follicle size AND when AF arrives should you not conceive.  GOOD LUCK!
