Twilight madness

I love the name Emmett and dh is slowly getting on board but I guess I am culturally inept and didn't realize a twilight character shared this name. Recently I have gotten a few twilight comments when I mention it. Was he a popular character and do you think it will rise in popularity due to the movie?

I wouldn't worry about it. I've seen all the movies but if I heard the name I wouldn't automatically think Twilight. Plus, now that the movies are over it's not going to be much of an issue.

Emmett is high on our boy list too, and not because of twilight. I have gotten some comments, and the name has risen in popularity since the books came out. It still not even in the 100's though, so I think it's ok. Especially since the fan fare for twilight should be dying down a bit before too long.

He's not a main character, but I do think that the name has already risen due to the movie.

I like Emmett too and have not officially put it on the list because of Twilight. I'm still deciding if it bothers me enough.

I love the name Emmett!! I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think any of the names are going to get any more popular than they already are so you should be in the clear.

I think Twilight is well on it's way out and will be off the radar entirely by the time your kid starts preschool.  And like PP said, I don't think he was a big character.

I think it's a great name and you should use it if you love it.

I actually do think of Twilight as soon as I hear the name, but that's probably because I'd never heard the name Emmett before Twilight (what can I say, I was only in high school at the time... haha). I still think it's a nice name.

I don't think of twilight I think of football. Now the time I was in a rest area and heard a mom call her daughter Renesme..... then I thought of twilight! I like the name Emmett it sounds strong and confident.

It's unfortunate that this name is linked to such a pile of crap book series but thankfully it's not a main character name and I don't think many people would assume "Twilight" when they hear it.  Emmett is a good name.

I would hope that Twilight soon dies off and by the time your son is a bit older, no one will even make a connection. 

That said, I had no idea it was a character name.  Hope that helps!

Emmett is a great name, and one being used regularly for new babies, so I don't think a kid will forever have the Twilight association. However, I do make the association right away. I love the name and so does my husband, but when I mentioned Twilight, his first reaction was 'oh, I automatically thought of Back to the Future', which is a way more awesome reference. It totally upped my love of Emmett.

Thanks everyone! Dh has never seen twilight either and only thinks of emmitt smith football which is making the spelling game more difficult.

It's def on the rise like all the other character names, renesme or however you spell it was on the ss website. However it's just a movie and the popularity will pass so I don't think people will associate it with the movie but there will probably be quite a few
