Registry help?

So, I just found out last week that my work is going to throw a shower for me (awww). Until then, I wasn't expecting one at all from anyone. Thus, I hadn't registered anywhere... and several coworkers requested that I do so ASAP.

So, I have all these dumb, newbie questions. Like...

-Is it tacky to put nursing tanks on a baby shower registry? I won't put nursing pads or bras or anything like that on there, because, well, that's embarrassing and weird :X But are nursing tanks ok, even though they're really more for my comfort?

-How many items, roughly, is acceptable? I am having trouble picking stuff out at any of the typical, brick and mortar stores, but I don't want people to get frustrated, feeling like they have to just guess. (Whenever I go to a baby shower, I always go off the registry, usually the day of or day before the shower).

-How expensive is too expensive, and thus, tacky? I added a Moby wrap and a Boppy, but I feel like they're kinda pricy. Since my work shower will be my only one, I don't want to give the wrong impression :/

Any/all advice would be super-duper! Thanks!

Since your intended audience is co-workers, I'd keep it clean.  So no nursing tanks cause I'm not sure guys would want to know that.  I'd keep it simple too.  Since anything you get is 1 less thing that you'd need to buy, register for things you would buy.  Bigger gifts could be a group gift (but then I wouldn't think they'd want you to register).

Go for things like crib sheets, diapers (but not too many; who knows what you'll really like), burp rags, bath toys, exersaucer, bouncy seats, bath tub, washcloths, some clothes in varying sizes (remember the season), bottles, pacifiers, baby blankets.

I'd keep items at less than about $50.

I would not add nursing tanks to a registry for a shower given by my work.  I don't think it matters how many items you add and I would add everything you still NEED.  Since this is your only shower make sure you put down the things you really need and would definitely have to buy yourself.  I'm not saying not to put on a baby bathtub (I didn't like using them - sink was better) or the boppy (rarely used mine - pillow worked better) but there might be other things that you might need more (carseat, stroller, crib, PNP, bouncy seat, crib sheets, bottles (even if you nurse it's nice to have some), daiper/bath supplies, etc.  I would not be too concerned about the price of things.  Desitin, bath soap, baby lotion, burp cloths, etc. are pretty inexpensive so people might like to make a basket of those "goodies".  Car seat, stroller, PNP are a bit more pricey so others may want to go in together for those.

Register for what you need (although I do agree about the nursing tanks), and as long as you have a wide variety of prices, put expensive stuff on there.

Having 300 items for 50 people (let's say) doesn't require the 50th person to buy whatever is left over.  So.... just put on there what you need and you'll get some of it.

And price - as said, expensive stuff may be purchased by a group of people.  Again, having it simply on your registry doesn't require anyone to buy it.

Pretty much what PP said.  After your shower you can always add nursing tanks, nursing pads, etc to your registry and use the registry completion coupon you'll get.

I don't think that you should really worry about prices too much....just make sure you have a variety of prices.  We don't have showers for coworkers where I work but if a bunch of us are invited to a shower for a coworker we usually do big group gifts. Don't be afraid to put the carseat, stroller, or swing on there for example.

I think I'll be in the minority here but I think you should register for the stuff you need and want.  If that includes nursing supplies, go for it.  If people get weird about it, that is their problem.

I agree - if they're weirded out, they don't have to buy it. Plus, it would be helpful to get the completion coupon so you can buy them later.

Also, the guests won't know it's your only shower (and therefore your only reason for registering). You might have told a few co-workers you're not having another, but even if they remember, it's not like they would chat about it.

Register for whatever you would be willing to spend your own money on. I am not a fan of 10-page registries, but I'd rather see a few options in my price range than see nothing but a handful of $5 items or a couple of $100 items.

Oh, and on the nursing supplies, I don't think it's rude, but it might be a little forward considering these are your co-workers. My advice would be to mention the tanks to those nice older women who inevitably ask what you still need: "Gosh, I would love to have some nursing tanks, but I didn't register for them. Other than that, I think everything's on the list!"

Some workplaces / communities might be less prudish than I am, though, so it's really your call.

I think you should register for what you want and need. Its too much work to set up a registry based solely on the guest list. I have often just not purchased items off others registries that I didn't like or wasn't comfortable buying. As long as you have a range of items and price points you are being considerate of anyone who may throw you a shower or search out a gift for you.

Also, just because this is your only official shower doesn't necessarily mean that no one else in the world will get you a present. I assume you have some friends and family? If I had a cousin or something who was having a baby but not a shower, I'd automatically go to Babies R Us and look up her name to see what was on her registry before I bought her a gift.

Ahhh - thanks, everyone! Y'all have been very helpful. I realize most of this is common sense, but common sense feels lost on me at 34 weeks preggers :P  Thanks again :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the price point of items.  I was surprised to notice that the most expensive items on my registry were the first to be marked off as bought!  Not what I'd expected at all.  So you just never know.
