How long do you push for?

My friends have varied from 15 mins, 1 hour, to 6 hours... What's the longest you've heard someone pushing for?

I pushed for 45 minutes which seemed to go by really quickly when it was happening. I haven't heard many people talk about the length of their pushing so I'm not sure about the longest.

The longest? 5 hours.

I pushed for 2 hours with my first. It didn't feel like that long, though.

I pushed for 3 1/2 hours. I was in labor for 21 hours and was exhausted at that point.

The doctor told me 2 hours is the average for a FTM.

I pushed for 3 hours before they had to use the vacuum.  I pushed the longest out of everyone I know.  It felt like a week.

The longest I've heard among my friends group is 4 hours and that was my birth, lol. Not fun. I lost a fair amount of blood and was completely wiped out afterwards. DH had to step up and take care of everything for DS1 for the first day because I was too weak.

About 5 hours total, but I had an hour break in the middle.

I personally pushed for 3 1/12 hours with my son.  I have not known anyone personally that pushed for more than 4 hours, but obviously those people definitely exist!

I pushed for 3 very long, tough hours with DS. He would "turtle." Meaning that his head would appear and look like it was going to come out and once I stopped pushing, it would go back in each time. Super frustrating.

ETA: It actually makes me feel better that there are women that pushed as long as I did, or even longer, because I am the longest pusher that I know. All my friends/family were 3 pushes - an hour.

With my first I pushed for 2 hours before the doctor called for a c-section. With my second I pushed for 3 hours and required forceps assistance to deliver. I've not heard of someone pushing longer than 3 hours, but none of my IRL friends have kids so our circle is small.

Total labor= 1 hr Total pushing= 15 min. My OB was amazed it was so fast for a FTM. She also arrived on her EDD. I didn't think this 2nd pregnancy was going to be a dream one, and it isn't. I hope the laboring doesn't match the term too!!

I pushed for less than a minute, most I've heard of is maybe three hours?  I'm kind of surprised that someone was allowed to push for six hours rather than go in for a CS before then- the baby's usually in too much distress after that long.

I tried to push for 2 hours, before the OB tried to vacuum extract DS, then sent us in for a c-section. It is going to vary woman by woman, and even vary within her deliveries.

My OB said the same thing.

I pushed for 45 minutes but it seemed to go by pretty quickly.

I pushed for 2 hrs, but the first 30 mins or so were pretty worthless b/c the epi worked so well I couldn't feel what I was doing. It sounds like a really long time, but at the moment, it didn't seem so long b/c I was focused on what I was doing.

I pushed for about 90 minutes.  A close friend of mine pushed for 4, and ended up having a c-section.  Baby was not coming out.

I pushed for less than 10 mins with my first. It was a very quick labor that required 2-3 pushes and she was out.

#1 I pushed for over two hours.  He was posterior though.

#2 I pushed for less than ten minutes.

#3 I pushed for 45 minutes, but she was also posterior.

Your first is usually the longest pushing, because you don't really know what you're doing.

In my case, the only reason they let me go that long was that he never showed any signs of distress. I was at a birthing center and we tried absolutely everything before going to the hospital.  When I got there, they gave me epi and fluids.  After a break, I was able to deliver vaginally.  I was surprised but very thankful that they didn't rush to a c-section.

About 45 minutes with the L&D nurse before she called my OB, then about 25 minutes once my OB got there, so a little over an hour. But DD had also dropped and I was at a 10 for a little while waiting for another woman to deliver (though I was happily hanging out with my epidural) so I'm sure that may have shortened the necessary pushing time.
