The doctor told me 2 hours is the average for a FTM.
I pushed for 3 hours before they had to use the vacuum. I pushed the longest out of everyone I know. It felt like a week.
I pushed for 3 very long, tough hours with DS. He would "turtle." Meaning that his head would appear and look like it was going to come out and once I stopped pushing, it would go back in each time. Super frustrating.
ETA: It actually makes me feel better that there are women that pushed as long as I did, or even longer, because I am the longest pusher that I know. All my friends/family were 3 pushes - an hour.
Total labor= 1 hr Total pushing= 15 min. My OB was amazed it was so fast for a FTM. She also arrived on her EDD. I didn't think this 2nd pregnancy was going to be a dream one, and it isn't. I hope the laboring doesn't match the term too!!
brianabrad:They told us 2 hours of pushing is common with a FTM.
My OB said the same thing.
I pushed for 45 minutes but it seemed to go by pretty quickly.
#1 I pushed for over two hours. He was posterior though.
#2 I pushed for less than ten minutes.
#3 I pushed for 45 minutes, but she was also posterior.
Your first is usually the longest pushing, because you don't really know what you're doing.
candreco:I pushed for less than a minute, most I've heard of is maybe three hours? I'm kind of surprised that someone was allowed to push for six hours rather than go in for a CS before then- the baby's usually in too much distress after that long.
In my case, the only reason they let me go that long was that he never showed any signs of distress. I was at a birthing center and we tried absolutely everything before going to the hospital. When I got there, they gave me epi and fluids. After a break, I was able to deliver vaginally. I was surprised but very thankful that they didn't rush to a c-section.
I've had friends push for 3ish hours.
I pushed for about 45m.
