I missed. I just know a lot of women is first tri are iffy about getting the flu shot. I wanted to post this because this is not the year to skip it.

It is highly recommended to get a flu shot when pregnant.  But the flu mist nasal vaccine is not recommended when pregnant.

Totally agree with getting the flu shot, I wished I would have.  The flu is a lot harder on pregnant women and you don't have to worry just about yourself, but the baby as well.  I had the flu all week with a fever since Monday that just broke this morning at 4:30, and it was the worst ever lol.  I had to have fluids put in me at the hospital yesterday because I couldn't keep anything down and had lost over five pounds since Monday.  They also gave my the prescription of tamaflu I think its called, I will have to look at it.  The urgent care doctor called my OB who told him they are treating all of their pregnant flu patients with this.  I'm a little iffy on this cause the urgent care doctor didn't really support this decision, but my OB did, and she would hopefully know more about whats ok to take during pregnancy.  Although I will say since taking it and breaking that awful fever, I feel like a whole new lady lol  I mean I still have a nasty yucky cough and runny nose and no voice, but I have energy and can somewhat think now.  Plus I can eat without throwing up, which is awesome cause I was super hungry after all of this lol.

The severity of the flu is lessened with the flu shot. So yes you could still get it, it's not perfect, but you're not going to nearly as miserable sick than if you skipped it.

My father and DH's grandmother both tested positive for the flu despite getting the shot. They were over it within two days.

I was too lazy to go get it. Got the flu. Was sick for over a week. Like, if I was vertical it was because I was switching my location from the bed to the couch or back again, sick.

totally safe to get the flu shot if you are in your first tri, since i got it at my first prenatal appointment at my OBs office yesterday! first time ive gotten one in 5 years. my local news (washington, dc area) is ridic with coverage about crazy high amounts of flu cases. its not too late to get one! just remember it takes 2 week to go into effect!

But, out of those 5+ people, were any hospitalized?  They tend to keep the most severe/deadly strains in the flu shots.

The virus that's causing 90+% of confirmed flu cases (H3N2) is covered by this year's flu vaccine.  

There are viruses going around that mimic that flu, but lab tests confirm it is not. Did your friends get a lab test to confirm the flu?

Also, it takes 2 weeks for immunity to take effect. If they were exposed less than two weeks after getting the shot, they can get the flu.
