quick temp question

sorry if something like this has been asked before

i temp at 7:15am.

for some reason my husbands alarm was set wrong and at 4:45 it went off...i rolled over..took my temp and it was 96.4

i saw it was 4:45...closed my eyes and went back to sleep (so i was up for less than a minute)

my alarm went off at 7:15...took my temp it was 97.0

so what do i use?

if i use 445am...then thats a HUGE time difference.

help :)

You should probably use the first temp since your body was totally at rest. You may have fallen back asleep, but once you wake up your body temp totally changes, and doesn't go back to rest completely until after three to five hours.

ETA: I might be crazy. I'm pretty new to temping, but after reading all of the tutorials on FF, that's the advice I would give. If I'm wrong I hope someone corrects me.

Most people would say always use the first temp.  I would write down the 2nd temp in the notes that way you have it for reference if needed later.

Personally, I would use the 7:15 time.  You're so lucky you get to sleep so late!  My alarm goes off at 5:30.  Anyway, I think 2.5 hours of sleep is enough for an accurate reading.

This. I've done this exact thing before. Plus Op, you were only awake long enough to temp. I don't think that would be enough to mess up the 7:15 temp.

Usually people say to use the first temp when someone gets up.

Since you went back to sleep and slept for about three more hours, I would go with your normal temp time temp and make a 'note' of the 4:45a temp.

All in all, one temp on a random day, isn't going to make a huge difference in the 'overall' pattern.

ETA: Ignore me, I can't do math. It wasn't three or more hours.  derp.

This happens to me a lot since DH has such a weird schedule.  My rule is if I go right back to sleep with little to no movement and no conversation, then I use my temp from my regular time.  However, if I get out of bed and walk around (like to go to the bathroom), then I use the first temp.  If I stayed in bed but couldn't get back to sleep right away then I use the 2nd temp and mark it as sleep deprived.

A lot of times, I don't even remember waking up and temping at the earlier time, which just proves that I can temp and write it down in my sleep.

I personally would use the first time, when you mark the time and it's off from your normal time it will give you an open circle.  It really won't mess up the overall pattern, even if you are about to O.

i agree with slaps here. I cant see where you are in your cycle but if it is t around ovulation time it shouldnt make a huge difference.

I did the same thing today. My normal time is 7:45. I woke up,early for some reason at 6:30, temp 97.4 and went right back to sleep never leaving bed. Woke up at 7:45 and temp 98.0.
I used the first temp. If I went with 2nd, I get crosshair on FF but I'm going by opk this time to mark o. I'm trying to get consistent temp time next cycle...

Wrong.  A minimum of 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep is required for an arrurate temp.

OP, I would use the first temp, mark the time you took it and write down the second temp.
