PP initals.

Nowhere close to picking a boy name...

How big of a no-no is it to pick a name that would give LO  the initials "PP"?  I know kids are mean... and 2 teacher friends said it was a really bad idea.

We love the name Patrick... but I feel like we can't use it.

To be honest, I never really see the issue with initials. Who gets called by their initials? I think the age in which children would find PP laughable, they wouldn't think to call someone by their initials.. My youngsters hardly even know their friends last names.

This is a good point and I agree, but you just never know with kids these days. Patrick is a great name, we would use it but we already have 2 in the family.  Tough call, OP!

I completely disagree, I have two Madisons in my class and one I call Maddie G, the other I had initially called Maddie P and the kids would snicker every time.  Initials involving MN are not a big deal IMO but involving FN and LN are huge.

If there's a middle initial you'd probably get by without notice. But you never know... my initials were MST and at one point there were jokes about MT sounding like empty. We are avoiding some names that cause issues with our last name... polish beginning with "but" sound... so no Richard for us!

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I would've paused and wondered about the initials PP at all.  I'm still think it's extremely tame.  I'd use it.  ::shrug::

I am typically team don't worry about initials, but I will admit I snickered a little when I saw your OP titleEmbarrassed

OP, yes, I DO think that your PP might get teased, but honestly, it really could be worse.

Patrick is a great name and if you love it use it.

Fair enough. But then that means any kid with a last name that starts with a P could get made fun of. I feel like kids can make fun of ANYTHING if they want. Patrick is a nice, strong name though and I don't think OP should not use it because of that. In a sea of Braxtons and Zzayddens, I think Patrick will be fine. Just my opinion.

Kids will make nicknames out of anything.

I wouldn't worry about initials, personally. The only time I'd consider it is if it spelled something crude, lol.

I wouldn't do it. Yes, kids can make mean nns out of anything, but I'd try to give them as little ammunition as possible.

It took me a second but when I read the title of your post a second time, I snickered. I'm not proud to admit that.  So, while kids can find anything to make fun of, I'm of the mindset of why give them ammunition.  I had a friend who ruined the name Luke for me - saying "Luke the Puke."  I immediately thought, what if he pukes in school one day, he is thereafter going to be knowng as "Luke the Puke?"  Same could apply to having an accident in school with the initials PP.  Sorry to be such a debbie downer!

Although, we named our kid Jack so hopefully he won't have to face the potential "Jacka**" or "Jacko**" jokes.   Now that I write this, I'm not sure why I thought that was less of an issue than "Luke the Puke!"

Hmmm, you're really close to delivering. I think if there isn't any other name you like more than Patrick by now, you might as well use it.

Yes he's sure to be teased at some point about pee pee, but like a PP mentioned I think that could happen anyway since you have a P LN.

Don't do it. I use initials in my classroom somewhat frequently when there isn't space for kids to write their full names like when the kids write things on sticky notes, add thoughts to anchor charts, etc.

I would use Patrick - like others have said, kids can make fun of everything, so unless it's something blatantly bad (if the initials spelled out PIG, for example), I would go with whatever you love.

Look at the popularity of the name Maddie right now - Fatty Maddie. Aiden is popular: Aiden and 'abettin (granted, this would be a taunt at an older age and not grade school).

Kids are cruel, but they are usually cruel at random, so there's nothing much the parent can do that will protect them from everything. And PP is a pretty tame insult and will hopefully be something that is outgrown quickly (if it even becomes an issue at all).

We did everything by initials all through elementary school. And I've had jobs as an adult where I need to initial all of my work.  So initials matter to me.  I wouldn't do PP.

If they will be using their initials in school (I've worked in my kids classrooms and for whatever reason they have never done anything by initials, either did I when I was growing up) I still think PP is pretty harmless and something that anyone over the age of 7 will not find humorous.
