Newly Pregnant with Twins

Hi I am Renee and I found out a few weeks ago that we are having twins on our third pregnancy. I have been so scared these past few weeks. I just don't know what to expect. I really had single pregnancy down, now I am thrown for a loop. But I am getting excited for this new journey.

My biggest concern is not being able to deliver vaginally. I had to amazing labors with my first two and I really hope to have the same experience. I am also so nervous about the NICU. Do any of you have any tips on keeping the babies in until 36 weeks. Anything I should not be doing or I should be doing?

Today my doctor told me not working out for now.

I am sure lots of questions throughout this whole process. I am so glad I have this board.

I don't have much advice except listen to your body, though I'm sure you're better at it than I was because I am a FTM. But, in the early weeks when I was still working I was standing 8 hours a day, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy boxes all day because these were all things my doctor said was okay and the boxes didn't exceed my weight restriction.
About four hours into my shifts I would literally feel sick because I was so exhausted. I would get dizzy and light headed and I'd get a heavy pressure like the babies were trying to come out. After 4 weeks of this at my next appt my cervix had shortened to a 1.7, 3 is normal, and I had funneling. I was only 19 weeks along and I think my weeks of over doing it had something to do with it all. I could be wrong but NOW that I'm on bedrest because of it, I haven't had those symptoms and my cervix has hung out at a 2.

Just take it easy, at around 28 weeks it's probably going to be really hard on your body.

As far as raising twins, I haven't got that far yet :D but the other MoMs here on the multiples board are really great and are so informative. I spend a lot of time lurking and learning all the advice they give which has made me begin to feel a lot more prepared! Good luck and congrats x2!

Congrats on your twins. Unless you have a job with a lot of heavy lifting or physical activity, the beginning of your twin pregnancy probably won't be a lot differant than the beginning of your singleton pregnancies. If you do have that type of job, definately talk to your doctor about work restrictions. I only recently noticed the difference around 18 weeks when I started to get up 2x a night to go to the bathroom - that didn't happen until about 7 or 8 months with my daughter. I'm also now more cautious about lifting things. I even leave carrying laundry baskets up and down the stairs for my husband - something I didn't do until very late in my singleton pregnancy. There is definately an increased risk for pre-term labor so as PP said, listen to your body. My OB is also doing a lot more monitoring. I'm getting U/S every 4 weeks and she's already moved me up to office appointments every 2 weeks. Lots of ladies make it to 37+ weeks but you will probably have to take it a little easier and not push your body as much as you may have with your first 2.

Those two concerns were also my top two concerns. Listen to your body and rest when you can. I'd force used to take 1015 min breaks throughout the day. Congrats and welcome!

hi and welcome! The twins were also my 3rd pregnancy.  I had the same worries as you. I didn't find out it was twins until our 20 wk u/s.  I delivered vaginally at 36 weeks; he was head first and she was butt first. No NICU time, and they came home with us 2 days later.  The only thing different I did was rest more b/c I was so exhausted all the time; I was not even remotely that tired with my single pregnancies.  I just listened to my body. But it wasn't always easy with 2 older ones.
