Weight Loss Checkin

Hey, ladies! I finally have taken initiative and signed up for Weight Watchers online. I had my second endocrinologist followup post Thyroidectomy, and I have indeed gained 10 lbs since my surgery! The doc said that if my thyroid levels are off, that could be the cause. Most likely, though, it is a result of the eating habits I created while hyper, when I could eat anything and everything in sight and not gain an ounce. Normalizing has its down side, I guess.

Since the doc urged me to change my eating habits and I've heard such great things about WW, I bit the bullet and have officially started!

I don't know if any of you ladies are actively trying to lose weight, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone was interested in a weekly check in, as a means of supporting each other and venting our frustrations along the way. It would go something like:

Weight loss strategy:
Goal Weight:
This week's weight loss:
Total weight loss:
This week's struggles/thoughts:
Doing anything new or different next week:
Recipes/Tips and Tricks to share:

Please let me know if you are interested in a check in. I'd be happy to be responsible for starting the thread each week!

Goal Weight: 145
This week's weight loss: 0, just started
Total weight loss: 0
This week's struggles/thoughts: kind of discouraged. It looks like a long road.

Weight loss strategy: weight watchers -online only. no meetings.

Goal Weight: High School Weight, 135

This week's weight loss: 0, just started

Total weight loss: probably + a few but I've been too scared to step on the scale.

This week's struggles/thoughts: I just need to get into it. Grocery shopping is on the short list of things to do before I get going. Lots of fruits & veggies.

Doing anything new or different next week: I'm going to get out of the damn bed and get on the treadmill. There is literally no excuse. Maybe tomorrow morning will be the start :)

*maybe we could add good recipes that we've tried? tips, tricks?

I'm so excited we've decided to do this!

This week's struggles/thoughts: It's kind of disappointing that you can work hard all week, and not see any difference. Although I feel a difference (being able to do more of the stuff the PT has me do), seeing it would be nice too. I can't wait for that. :)
Doing anything new or different next week: Nope, plan is the same for next week.

We used to do a "Getting Healthy" checkin - but it's been a while since someone ran it!  (another option was "Shrink 'Til It's Pink" checkin - haha)

I'd love to join this checkin!  It's probably the KITA I need :)

Weight loss strategy: counting calories, gym

Goal Weight: 140

This week's weight loss: I maintained this week...guess it's better than the gaining I've done the past month :-p

Total weight loss: 4.5 lbs since I truly started trying to lose weight (was up to 12, but gained 7.5 back :()

This week's struggles/thoughts: I need to count my calories - I always let the 2ww be an excuse to over-eat, you know "what if" - but that's a stupid reason

Doing anything new or different next week: on the 15th, I have a meeting with my orthopaedic surgeon, and will hopefully be cleared to start running again.  I hate getting back into running (I hate running in general), but I have missed it the last 3 months!

Recipes/Tips and Tricks to share: hmmm....have to think about this one.  A good idea for work snacks is raw almonds!  They can be kept in your desk, are very filling, and raw almonds are not full of salt!

Hehe. I remember trying to lose weight in high school, I joined a gym with my mom and would pick up fast food on my way home after working out. I would always just be so so hungry, and I thought it was ok because I had just exercised...I figured the one canceled out the other!

I have never been successful at losing weight and keeping it off. This time, I mean business!

Im on board! Here's mine so far.

Weight loss strategy: I have had great success on WW, I am however trying to cut my daily caloric intake and go to the gym 5x a week for 30 minutes. I am still tracking my food, with a set calorie goal

Goal Weight: in a perfect world 120lb , in my realistic world 140lbs

This week's weight loss: Since Jan 1st I have lost 8lb

Total weight loss: 8lb

This week's struggles/thoughts:I struggle wanting my sugar, in my coffee and such. I also HATE water with a passion, I like FLAVOR! so I use a little bit of crystal light in my water to flavor it a little bit. I also like Mio.

Doing anything new or different next week: MORE WATER. ugh.

Total weight loss: probably + a few but I've been too scared to step on the scale.  (Thanks madasm, that's me too)

This week's struggles/thoughts: I need to get my motivation back.  I hate running on the treadmill, but that's what I need to do because I get home so late.  Once I start working out again, I'll be more apt to track again.

Doing anything new or different next week: Nothing planned... :/

I'm in! I think it is great that you are taking charge of your post Thyroidectomy weight gain. I was not prepared for it and I gained 35lbs in 6 months. I was lucky that I started underweight and I don't need to lose 35lbs to be where I think I need to be, but I have gained too much too fast that it isn't healthy weight.

Weight loss strategy: Curves and Eating Healthy

Goal Weight: 145

This week's weight loss: 0

Total weight loss: 0

This week's struggles/thoughts: Baked Goods

Doing anything new or different next week: I have gone to Curves twice this week and plan to use my eliptical more.

This is what I am afraid of! Everyone "says" they can't see it, except my mom, who told me that it is "dramatic" and that I should be rushing to the doctor. Her perspective is that comments like that aren't hurtful because it's not like the weight gain is your fault...yeah, right, mom! That totally hurt!

Anyway, my jeans are tight, I am getting the dreaded double chin, and I feel like my arms can wave for me. My self image is so so bad right now. If WW works for me, and I hope it does, I'll feel much better about myself!

This is a great idea ladies!

Weight loss strategy: More time at the gym, eating more meals at home, less alcohol

Goal Weight: Realistically 150 right now.

This week's weight loss: Probably nothing, but I have started some healthier habits!

Total weight loss: I'm probably in the + column right now

This week's struggles/thoughts: I hate grocery shopping. Makes eating at home a challenge!

Doing anything new or different next week: Going to the gym 3 times. I think I will only hit two this week. Also dragging myself to the grocery store Tongue Tied

Recipes/Tips and Tricks to share:

Here's one that I like and my husband, who is not a super healthy eater, actually likes it pretty well too: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/quinoa-and-black-beans/detail.aspx

It's vegetarian, the protein comes from quinoa.

Also, someone in the WtoO thread posted about an app called Waterlogged that helps you track your water intake. I like it so far.

I'm sorry, ya those comments can really be hurtful. I knew I was at risk of gaining some weight, but I was always skinny and didn't have any issues so I wasn't prepared and felt helpless every week that I got on the scale and I was up a pound or two. I was afraid it was never going to stop. I had lost 8 lbs, but then gained 10 more, so I need to get serious about it.

Good luck w/ your 10lbs and I hope you start to feel better.
