activities for a 3rd bday party at home?

I am crazy for thinking of this so early but LO#2 will be here about 3 weeks before DD's 3rd bday in July. I want to have a party for her at the house so she gets something special and has something to look forward to after LO arrives. I am thinking of a 2-3 hour party, some of that will be eating and cake time, but what other activities do people suggest? I had been thinking of water games but I don't want to deal with that. The other thing to consider is that I live in New Orleans and it is HOT here in the summer, with like, 90% humidity, so outdoor activities have to be kept to a minimum. TIA!

We had our nieces in town last summer and they LOOOVED our slip 'n slide.  So did our DD.  I rolled my eyes when DH bought this b/c I didn't think it would get used.  I was wrong.  Best cheap purchase we ever made.  We set DD's kiddie pool near it and her and my 4 yr old niece played in it when they weren't using the slip 'n slide.  Just a thought!

Bouncy houses are always good. Also maybe set a table outside next to the bouncy house with coloring activities. For a few of my LO's bday parties I purchased plain brown paper bags (yours could be white if you prefer) and had the kids decorate there own goodie bag. Then I had a bowl with candy and toys that they could choose from and put in their bags. You could use color pencils, crayons, markers, glue, glitter, cut outs and so much more. Pin the tail on the donkey is an old school one but it takes up time and is always fun. Good luck!

Several jump to mind. We had a princess party for DD's 3rd. We got unpainted ceramic type magnets at Walmart that they painted. I had a small set up for each child around the table and they all (with the help of their mom/dad) painted their magnet to take home. We've also painted sun catchers and they seemed to have fun with that too. I'm a child care provider, so we have a large playroom, never discount just letting them play. We've also done an undecorated sugar cookie with sprinkles/frosting set ups around the table for them to decorate their own cookie to either eat or take home. My final suggestion is something in general my kids love doing together or when they have friends over. We have a circular water table and those kids will play outside at the water table for the better part of an afternoon. Give them plenty of toys to pour, fill, float, etc., and they will entertain themselves. They can get a little wet if it's too hot. It would be a fun present too for your daughter.

We love to make the cake time into an activity because it takes up more time and the kids have a ball with it.

Last year I made chocolate zucchini cupcakes (they are soooo delish) with cream cheese frosting in three colors.  We don't do artificial anything if we can help it so we used turmeric for yellow (leave it out for a few days and it loses most of the flavor), blueberries for purple, and strawberries for pink.  We got some nuts, Sundrops, fruit, coconut, and Yummy Earth lollies.  While the kids were playing we set up each plate with a cupcake (take off the liner!), a dollop of each frosting, a bit of all the toppings, and a popsicle stick for the frosting.

They have a ball with this!! You can still have the main cake for singing and eating but the decorate your own are messy, fun, and yumm!!!

We have done this activity ever year since our daughter was two.  Until she was four, we put a table cloth on the floor and had them sit on that.  Hand out wet wipes to parents so they can be ready for the post-decoration wipe down!

Have fun planning and celebrating! :)

DD1 turned 3 in september. Obviously the weather here was nothing like what you'll have ther ein July, but I just wanted to let you know we didn't really have any special activities. We were supposed to have it at the orchard, but it was cold and rainy so we had it at home instead.

We had maybe 8 of her little friends/cousins over and they were just happy to run around the house and play together.

DD2's birthday was in July and we had it at a nearby splash park. Not sure if that's an option for you but we all loved it. For one thing, there was very little prep to do (no cleaning before or after - hooray!). Also, what kid doesn't like a splash park?

If you're looking to stay inside, I might do a ball pit instead of a bouncy house.

Also, on DD's actual birthday, instead of goodie bags, I sent her to daycare with plain party hats and stickers, pompoms, and other craft items to decorate the hats with. It was a really big hit with her class mates and she wore her hat for about a month after her birthday.
