Anyone else gat the flu while pregnant?

I have the flu.  I feel horrible, but I am more worried about the effects to the baby.  I have read before that getting the flu while pregnant can cause birth defects and multiple other problems.  I am freaking out.  Anyone else have experience with this?  And yes, I did get a flu shot....

Maybe just monitor your symptoms extra carefully, try to stay hydrated, keep your dr updated and definitely call them if you feel like you can't keep up with your liquids. I think dehydration and the fever pose the most risk to LO(?)

Worst flu epidemic in years...what a winter to be pregnant :( feel better soon!

I just got over the flu.  I too had received my flu shot (in October) but was 'lucky' enough to catch one of the strains that is going around and not part of the vaccine. I spoke with my PCP and OB, both of which had me take Tamiflu.  Because I got in quickly to PCP, I was able to take this and it helped tremendously with the symptoms.  This was the first time I've had the flu in 17+ years, but it was awful until the Tamiflu got into my system.

As for birth defects and such - please stay away from Dr. Google!  There are many stories and theories and such, but since you are in your 3rd Tri, you are less likely than a 1st tri for your LO to develop a birth defect.  Most of LO is completely formed by now, other than refining the central nervous system (as LO prepares to live outside womb), there isn't a lot of development.  Primary 3rd tri is a period of growth and refinement of existing systems.

Bottom line - don't bring on unneeded stress.  You got your flu shot, did what you could to stay healthy.  Now just get some rest, drink lots of water and know that your LO is still growing away.  Feel better soon!

I have it right now and so does DH, DS, and DD....it sucks. I just hope we all have it out of our systems by the time baby comes.

you'll be fine. just keep up with tylenol so make sure your fever stays under control. thats the biggest issue (and of course dehydration). id say if your fever is close to 101 and the tylenol doesnt work to bring it down, go back to your dr or to the hospital. thats what my dr told me.

I had the flu a month ago and it was horrible.  I was so dehydrated they couldnt even find my veins for IV's.  So keep yourself hydrated and if you feel even slightly dehydrated go to the doctor.  Baby was completely fine which was my main concern.  Feel better!

I had the flu in November, no one brought any concerns to my attention.  Except when I developed pneumonia and was prescribed antibiotics.  I feel better for the most part, but never seem to successfully shake all the symptoms.  Just had another u/s and the little guy looks good; he's not so little they were all commenting on his  size today.

I agree with PP. Keep your fever under 101. 103 = terminal to baby.

I had the flu beginning Dec 22nd...fever for 4 nights in a row. First night I went to triage since I was throwing up and dehydrated, but then they just said to take Tylenol or NyQuil to keep fever down, my fever would get up to 101 before coming down. Now 3 weeks later and I am still coughing a lot... I keep complaining at my prenatal appts but they never seem worried... I wish they would have given me tamiflu at the beginning!
