XP: No OB visits between 12-24 weeks w/Kaiser

Hi Ladies, still in first tri but I figure you guys might have some more insight given that you are in your second tri. Thanks!

XP: I went to my 12 week appointment and my dr told me Kaiser does not do another OB visit until 24 weeks.  They figure since they are seeing me at 20 weeks for anatomy ultrasound, it doesn't matter if I see the Dr or not.  I was suprised by this.  Anyone else not seeing their OB for the next 3 months?

Specifically Kaiser mom's, are you getting this information?

Is there really a reason for a check-up between that time?  My first appointment isn't even until 15 weeks, technically.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

I have Kaiser - they schedule it every 6 weeks. Then they scheduled the a/s with a radiologist at 20 weeks. Your OB may change it up a little if you aren't a high risk, but if you want to meet I'm sure if you request it they can see you.

I'm not sure but with all 3 of my pregnancies (this being the 3rd) I've been seen once a month until my 3rd tri. I've gotten the NTT scan done at 13 weeks as well. I'd talk to your doctor or change your doctor if you feel uncomfortable with it. It's just peace of mind for me when I go in once a month and hear my LO's heartbeat. Good luck!

You should be having a OB apt every 4 weeks.

I have Kaiser (Bay Area) and I'm scheduled for monthly appointments through to 8 months, then weekly. This is independent of scans/testing. For instance I had my NT on the 19th and then an OB appointment on the 21st. This month I have an OB appointment on the 18th and our 20 week A/S ultrasound on the 31st. Is it just your doctor's rule of thumb, or the whole department?

She claims it Kaiser's rule and she doesn't agree with it.  She said if I want to be seen in between the times, just to call and complain of a possible UTI and she will be able to get me seen.

I have Kaiser in Georgia and use one of their facilities.  I've been seen at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, will be seen again at 16, and have been told I will be seen every 4 weeks until I start the every 2 weeks at 28 weeks, and then the every week appointments at the end of the 3rd tri.  Even in the packet they gave me it breaks down a "what to expect at your appointment" and includes appointments in the 12-24 week time frame.  This is #3 for me and I've never not had appointments during that time frame.

Another Kaiser CA patient here.

I have been seen every 3 weeks because I'm high risk. If I wasn't high risk I would be being seen every 4-5 weeks.

I have Kaiser in Oregon. I was first seen in November, BFP in October, First official Ultra Sound at the end of November then my next appointment in December. I have my 20 week ultra sound on the 30th and my next doctors appt on the 31st. They do them every 4 weeks or so here and they have a schedule of all your appointments on a thumb drive. Towards the end you can continue to do monthly or do every two weeks. I can send you the schedule that was given to me if your interested?

Not necessarily. For low risk moms, every six weeks or so in the first part of pregnancy is sufficient.

I am not high risk and had OB apt every 4 weeks with both of my pregnancies.  In the third tri they move up to every 2 weeks.  After 33 weeks you go every week.  This is how my dr. office does it.

I have an appointment every 4 weeks, but I'm paying for it all out of pocket because my private insurance doesn't cover maternity, so frankly I wish I was in your position.  I'm low-risk, and frankly going in every month to hop on a scale and get my blood pressure and hear a heartbeat and say "bye!" seems...well, pointlessly expensive.  I can see why Kaiser would do it differently, because if I had a choice I would too!

Haha at first I thought Kaiser was your baby's name.... which I thought was kind of weird, but I wasn't going to say anything. I get it now.

Anyway, that is kind of weird. I had a lot of stuff going on around then. I had an NT scan at 13 weeks, and I had bloodwork done twice in that timeframe.  In addition, each time I go my doc checks my urine and my blood pressure just to make sure everything is normal. I guess if you aren't doing any of those first trimester screenings, it's not as big of a deal.

I don't have Kaiser but if you are a returning patient with a healthy prior pregnancy, they see you every 5 weeks, then every instead of 4 and 2.

If it makes you feel better, at my last two visits with the OB, we just chatted.  And they checked my BP.  Nothing exciting.

I have Kaiser in Oregon. I have free prenatal visits every 4 weeks through 26 or 28 weeks, then every two weeks for a while, then every week at the end. That's independent of the NT scan, a/s, etc. I'm also 35 = high risk.

I have Kaiser in the MD/DC/VA area and this is my 3rd pregnancy under Kaiser.  I have always been seen every 4 weeks or so (depending on what day is better for me personally for my appointments and availability) starting at week 9.  At approx. 28 weeks, I go every 2 weeks and then around week 36 I start to go every week.

I am not sure of your state but that is not Kaiser's policy in area that I am aware or.  Where are you located?

This is weird to be esp since you have your anatomoy scan at approx 20 weeks.  How are you supposed to know when they have put in for you to schedule that and are they going to wait a whole month to give you the results of the scan should any issues arise?

I would switch doctors or call the kaiser advice line and ask them what the policy is.  Maybe you should also consider another Kaiser facility in your immediate area if one is available

You should call your insurance and verify what kind of coverage you have. Every plan is made up differently, they all maybe kaiser or blue cross, but they still have different levels of coverage.

I have Kaiser and I was seen at 16, 20, 20 for A/S, and 24 weeks. I don't know who you talked to, but I'm sure that's not the system wide policy. You should see your dr at 16 weeks and or your A/S results. I would call member services.

Not to freak you out horribly but while I was with Kaiser my son had a heart condition that presented in that time period. Had we not gone we wouldnt have known about the condition.
