XP: PSA: Flu Season

I know this topic is beat to death here. However, I'm XP-ing this from my BMB anyway.

For those of you who don't realize how bad this flu season is, here is a map:

As you can see, most of the country is being severely affected by the flu this season. And these are just confirmed cases. So, you can imagine that the actual rate of influenza this season is likely higher. I work at a large university hospital and we are literally overflowing with sick patients. There is no peak in sight for the flu this season and cases continue to climb. It also not just elderly people and young babies that are getting sick. We are seeing more and more cases of previously healthy adults who are being admitted for the flu.

If you haven't, please go get a flu vaccine. One of this season's most popular strains is H3N2, which is included in this year's vaccine. Remember that you aren't just helping yourself when you get vaccinated, you are helping those around you who cannot get vaccinated or don't have the means to pay for a flu vaccine.

If you cannot or will not get vaccinated, please please please take EVERY precaution you can. Wash your hands frequently, cover your nose or mouth when you cough or sneeze, and for pete's sake, stay home when you are sick.

I've been fighting a cold for a month and I'm finally well enough to get the shot! Of course EVERY place around here is sold out of it. So my mom's doctor said last night he had one left and it's mine! Getting it today!

Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

I don't know where you got your information but it is misleading to say the least. The strain you mentioned that is in the flu vaccine is one of the strains of the flu going around but it is NOT the strain that is causing the deaths. That has already been verified. There are 2 other strains that are causing problems but not deaths that are included in this year's flu vaccine. But the deaths are not from those 2 strains.
