Shower Bust

Had to reschedule my shower bc of a death in my hubby's family. He is going to the funeral I am not bc I cannot travel. Now one if my friends cannot make The shower. She would like to go to lunch this weekend. I told her I would love to but can't bc I was using that weekend to get the help I need around the house shower is at my house, finish up the nursery, and shop for furniture pieces. I asked would it be cool to come over my house. Then I get an invite from her and another friend to go to lunch on that sat. I gave the same response and now she is upset. I am carrying twins made it to 33 weeks and trying to hang in there for as long as I can with 1000 things to do and I am still working. How do I juggle this? I don't want to disappoint my friend but I am exhausted physically and mentally. Suggestions please.

If you are physically and mentally exhausted, step away from the baby prep. Take a break. Go to lunch.

This.  Seriously, it's like what, an hour and a half?  Go have some lunch with your friends...

Exactly.  And honestly- a lot of "baby prep" really doesn't HAVE to be done before the babies get here.  As long as you have a few clean clothes, diapers and a place for them to sleep- that's all THEY need.

Agree with these ladies!  Go.to.lunch.  You are having twins in a few weeks. You aren't going to lunch again for a while.  Enjoy yourself!

All of this. I just got back from a church shower this evening where we all went out to dinner at Panera - the mom is 36 weeks pregnant with twins. She was saying how nice it was to get out of the house and enjoy a meal with friends.

+1

As long as you have a few sleepers, diapers, and beds for the babies - everything else can fall into place in the next few months after they are born. Take some time for yourself and go out and relax. If it's a choice between cleaning/organizing and going out with my friends, I'm going with my friends every single time. The to-do list will still be there when I get back, but I'll be much less stressed after some downtime.

And yes, if I was the friend, I would be insulted that I was blown off for a check-list, when I would know that there will be many times after the babies born that the new mom can't come out for legitimate reasons.
