First Book for Baby

Hey Ladies,

During our last prenatal appointment my doctor recommended buying books so that DH can read to the baby, even though baby is still inside. This is because studies show that while the baby won't recognize dad's heartbeat, when they hear the familiar noises (from the reading) they will be calmed easier by DH.

We went with Goodnight Moon and The Hungry Caterpillar. Both classics which hubby has never read (!). I We were also looking at some Robert Munch such as Mortimer and The Paper Bag Princess.

Has anyone else started reading to baby? What books did you buy?

We have a ton of favorites but anything by Sandra Boyton is wonderful.

We read all the time with my 6 year old, so we've been in that habit for a while.  However, when I was pregnant with him I did read to him as well.  I read Brown Bear, Brown Bear a lot to him and he still loves that book!  We have so many more books now that it's easier, but when I was building my library for my son the Brown Bear book became an instant favorite.  I also would recommend Guess How Much I Love you.

We read to our toddler for what seems like hours a day (he loves books) so I know the little guy is hearing it too :) Any board book, children's book, etc would be fine. Some of our favorites are the hungry caterpillar, good night moon, chicka chicka boom boom, anything by Leslie Patricelli, farm books, Freight Train by Donald Crews, etc.

If you can make it through without crying, Love You Forever is another good one; I still can't read it without crying though.

we bought "Oh baby the places you'll go, a book to be read in utero" it's a Doctor Seuss book and it references all the other ones, it's really cute, I've read it, DH has read it, even grandma(my mom) read it when we went home for Christmas. I love it and think it was totally worth it.

We have been reading children's books that are kind of funny to entertain us too.  We figure it doesn't matter what we are reading, just that the baby can hear our voice.  Some of my favorites are "This is Not My Hat" by Jon Klassen and "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" by Mo Willems.

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch is one of my favorite books of all time!  I used to read it to my Pre-school kids....they loved the story.
