Cravings

At what stage do you start having cravings?

Are they really as crazy as pickles and peanut butter or are they more like moods - if you're in the "mood" for pizza kind of thing?

17 weeks and just started wanting certain foods so I would say Definitely Moods. Nothing crazy. Just normal foods I have eaten before. Like last week I wanted crab out of know where so there I was at Red Lobster and nothing else would do.

So far I have only had moods for food as well.  I'm 15 weeks. However,  I know...let me repeat...I KNOW a woman who craved dirt. No joke wanted to eat dirt while she was pregnant.  So I'm sort of praying that my moods remain moods and don't turn into some weird craving. (She denied herself the dirt just so you know lol).

So far mine has been just moods. My latest craving/mood is soup. Certain kinds of soup just sound good to me and I try to have soup at either lunch or dinner lately.

When somebody craves something not-nutritive like dirt, its a condition called Pica. Its common in woman (especailly pregnant) and children. It can mean and iron deficiency among other things. Really crazy!

I would say lately I have been in the mood for certain foods. Pizza Hut commercials have been driving me crazy! Looks so good! But we don't have one that is more than 30 minutes away Sad

I've had cravings since the beginning --- initially it was burgers. I crave pickles from time to time but I love them all the time so I'm not sure is PG related. I also like anything with vinegar like pickles, peppers.

It's more moods. But once I'm in the "mood" for something, nothing else sounds appetizing. I once had an argument with DH because I wanted Chik-fil-a (it was the only thing that sounded decent to eat) and he didn't want it because he "didn't feel like chicken."
WHY DID YOU SUGGEST IT THEN?!

I won that arguement...obviously. Haha

I LOVE peanut butter and pickles even when I am not pg, DH says I am weird but what ever.

As far as cravings go, it is usually just a mood thing, Like I want something salty, sour, sweet. DH actual has worse craving then I do and will pause the TV and run to the store in the middle of a show/movie.  but he has lots of sympathy pregnancy symptoms, and has all 3 times.

Ditto what PPs said, it's usually a mood that I'm in. I've always craved dairy, and ranch on EVERYTHING! And I even tried putting ranch on white rice....YUMMY! I guess that is kinda weird, but the two sounded really yummy together and they were! :) Done it several more times since

My cravings started around 8 weeks or so. I had never been much of a milk person but I was always craving a glass or two of milk with each meal.  I found it crazy when we went through a gallon of milk in a weekend for just the two of us.  Milk lasted a few weeks and after that the craving was for orange juice to the point where we were buying three cartons a week.  Currently the past few weeks the cravings have been for fruit juice.  I found it odd for a while that the only cravings I had were for beverages rather than food, but last Friday I was craving a burger and fries (both of which are rare in my usual diet) and that one I ended up having to indulge since it did not go away after a few days.

I started around 15 weeks and to me, so far, its mostly "in the mood for..." I will have the odd time where I need something and I need it now. My craving haven't been anything weird, just things I don't eat due to allergies or diet.

Poutine (fries, gravy, and cheese - I didn't eat that until the craving hit.)

Apple Juice (makes me sleepy due to allergy.)

Chicken Pizziola (Subway - we don't eat there often.)

Chicken Burgers (A&W/DQ/KFC - as long as they're real chicken, not McDonalds!)

Mine are most often random - except with my first pregnancy. With that one, I wanted apple juice and chocolate milk early in the pregnancy (not at the same time). I wanted apple juice so desperately at times that I would actually have to leave work at one point and walk across the street to the store to get some (luckily my FIL was my boss). Those cravings for juice were so bad that I would keep two gallon jugs in the refrigerator and I would finish them in a couple of days. I also craved salads for most meals. Those three cravings stayed with me from start to finish in that pregnancy.

My second pregnancy, cravings started at the end of the first trimester and I wanted cokes all the time until the end. I would have a few random cravings with that one (I want a Hershey Bar today or I want Twizzlers, etc.).

This time around, I craved Froot Loops like crazy in the first trimester - I went through two boxes in a week! But that tapered off after a couple of weeks and now I just get the odd craving every now and then. I do want orange juice a lot every morning, but I was sick with a cold that has dragged on for three weeks, so I think it's more an attempt to soothe my cough than to appease the baby.

Most of mine have fallen into the "moods" category, but the apple juice cravings for 8 months in my first pregnancy are what I imagine it's like to need a "fix" of something, because I seriously had to have it or could not function. It was crazy.
