Lotion

Hey Ladies,

FTM here and my LO is 5 days old. I was wondering when do you lotion your baby up and how many times a day do you do it?

 Thanks!

I think some people wait until the child is a certain age.  However, since the first bath we lotion DS up after each and every one.  For the most part this is every night.  On the nights we don't bathe him, I still try to remember to lotion him up, especially in the dry winter months!

We tried Aveno lotions at first, both the regular and the nighttime version, and both times he broke out in little pimples.

Now we do no lotion, and the pimples are gone, and his skin feels soft. It was dry when he was just a few weeks old, but it seems to be getting better.

I would not put lotion on a newborn - just way too young to have anything on them that isn't 100% necessary.

If you are concerned about some dry and flaky skin, especially on the hands and feet, that is totally normal. It will slough off. If it seems that bad you can put a little oil - olive oil, coconut oil or apricot would be my go-tos.

Even older babies don't need lotion every day. You want their natural oil to come out and moisturize them - if they are bathed too often, this can't happen.

I slather LO in coconut oil after every bath, not every day. On the non bath days I just put it on where she's flaky, hands and feet and cheeks.

We don't use lotion on LO. Even with flaky, extremely dry looking, overdue newborn skin, it isn't necessary.

My LO is now 6 weeks old and has beautiful skin. He gets a bath 5 days a week and we still don't use lotion.

Our pedi told us to personally wait until he was at least four weeks. Then we started using baby Aquaphor which is almost like a Vaseline.

We only put it on after bath time (3X per week) or if he is exceptionally dry.

- He has super sensitive skin

They told us not to put lotion on her.

ETA - we do use coconut oil on her bottom though.
