Confused by what week I'm in??

Hi ladies! So I had my calendar marked with my first day of the last period as December 13, 2012. I took my pregnancy test on Sunday, January 6th and it was positive. I was probably due for my period Jan. 6-8th at the very latest. So the calendar on this site says I'm in week four. Yet all the things it describes in week five sound like what I've been through. It states "this is your first week of a missed period." Well nooo, that was week four... So I'm confused, am I in week four or five? I'm going to see my Doctor on Tuesday to confirm my test. Hard to have an idea of what size baby is right now I get it, but I would like to follow along correctly. :) I'm just so excited!

You start counting by the first day of your last period. So my last period starting December 10, 2012 so I am 4weeks and 4days. When you see your doctor they may eventually determin you are further or less furter along based on your size, etc. But for now you count by the first day of your last period.

How far along you are is calculated by the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP).  So for example my LMP started on December 10 so I am currently 4 weeks 4 days.

As far as what they describe for symptoms and such with each week, you may experience some earlier than average, later than average or not at all.  Each pregnancy is different.

Edit:  LOL.  posted at the same time as pp.  How funny that we are the exact same day along!

I also had my LMP on Dec 10th, but I am a 30 day cycle, not a typical 28 day cycle so I am 4 weeks 2 days. Length of cycle comes into play too when calculating.

There really isn't any thing as a 28 day cycle or 30 day cycle, even if your regular it can still change one month for no rhyme or reason.  There's days to ovulation and then your luteal phase.  Days to ovulation can vary greatly, your luteal is generally quite consisent in length.  If you were charting your BBT and know your exact ovulation date you could pinpoint things based on cycle length.  I wasn't, although based on other signs I think I probably ovulated on CD 11 or 12 instead of CD 14 which actually makes me 4 weeks 6 days or 5 weeks.  However its only a couple days difference and babies rarely come when we say they should so I'm not worrying about it.

Also some of this stuff is confusing enough so I didn't want to tell the OP something different from what she's going to hear from her doctor.  Her doctor is going estimate her due date from the first day of her lmp and won't change that estimate unless an ultrasound indicates otherwise.

Your right, but when you've charted for years and every month is 30 days long , I think it's pretty safe to say its a 30 dAy cycle. Luteal phase is usually assume to be 14 days before next period, although, like you said, that too can vary, but if someone who has consistent 30 day cycles, if they have a "normal" 14 day Luteal cycle, they will ovulate 2 days after someone with a 28 day cycle, hence changing the due date.

In your mind, your due date may change, but the Dr. is still going to calculate the due date based on LMP, not O date.

If your last period started on Dec. 13, and you think your next one was due to start on Jan. 6, that must mean you tend to have shorter cycles (i.e. around 24 days)?  That would mean you ovulated a little earlier than is typical and would 'miss' your period sooner than someone with the average 28 day cycle.  That 28 day average is what all the sites/calculators go by, but doesn't fit every woman.  Don't be confused, for now just go by the first day of your last period and later your doctor may change it based on ultrasound dating.  No big deal.

I know ... Which is why my Im using my lmp as my dd =-)  I went onto pregnoloygy.com and put in my information based on my LMP not my "O" date.... an ultrasound would have to confirm otherwise. But when pregnology.com calculates you edd...it asks for LMP and cycle day number. I chose LMP as 12/10 and a 30 day cycle..... go there and try out different numbers....

None of this back and forth between you and me helps the OP.  You chart, you know what day you ovulated so you went back two weeks from that and dated your pregnancy from there.  That's great.  You can even tell your doctor that your LMP was December 12th and he will agree with you.  If you tell him your LMP was December 10th he will date you the same as me.

Why try to confuse the OP further?  Her pregnancy will be dated from her LMP and subsequent ultrasounds will show if there is a reason to amend her due date.
