Sleeping

I know everyone has a different view on bed sharing with LO, but today I got a major scolding from our pediatrician. When I explained that LO will only sleep in my arms, she recommended an almost "cry it out" style to reteach her that she can fall asleep on her own. She told me to let LO cry for ten minutes, and if she hasn't stopped, to go in, talk to her (and DON'T touch her), then wait ten more minutes, and repeat until she falls asleep. I did "cry it out" with my first, but she was 8 months old. I am not sure how I feel about cry it out for a 2 week old. Anyone else try this? I don't mind sleeping with LO but I wouldn't mind if she slept in her crib either...

My pediatrician said the same thing. I tried it during the day when LO took a nap. He hated sleeping anywhere, but on me. He cried for like 2 hours that first day, but then he was fine by that night. He's sleeping in his crib now.

Do you swaddle? I know LO wouldn't of been able to sleep on his own those first few weeks without being swaddled!

Before attempting CIO at this age I suggest that you read Dr. Sears thoughts on it.

Definitely try swaddling if you haven't. That and white noise has been amazing for my two.

I would find a new doctor. CIO is NOT recommended for babies under 6 months of age, that makes me sick that a doctor would recommend to do so to a 2 week old!

This. Your baby is way too young to CIO. Mine has only been able to sleep on me since day 1. I decided early on that if this is the only way she and I can get good sleep, so be it.

I bed share with my LO. My pediatrician doesn't even know. I personally don't see how it's any of a pediatrician's business to tell you how or where your baby should sleep (except to tell parents what risks there are and what is recommended. They need to be unbiased).

If I were you, I'd go to a new pediatrician. I know that I'd get a scolding from the pediatrician we see if mine knew (and for that and other reasons we are going to try to find a new one). I think what she recommended as "sleeping advice" is ridiculous and is basically CIO, which isn't okay with a baby less than 4 months old (babies less than 4 months are crying because they need something).

If it makes you feel any better, my LO has started napping without me holding him. I think we're really close to getting him to sleep all the time on his own (which will help me get more sleep; we only have a full size bed).
