First time since giving birth...

I'm a FTM and had my 6 week checkup earlier this week.  The dr. gave me the go-ahead for sex...not that i'm even remotely interested. lol but my husband is. anyway, my dr. recommended using olive oil as lubricant...have any of you ever used that?  Sounds strange to me...like it will be really greasy and i wouldn't think to use that down there

anyway, i'm kind of nervous about how painful it might be too...anyone want to share what their experience was like the first time since giving birth?

That made me LOL. Like i could be doing so many other things than having sex. Ugh. I have heard of olive oil for some reason, but I just used regular KY. I too waited for clearance after my 6 week check up. It really wasn't that bad. A little tender.

Sex was incredibly painful for me for 4 months after DS. Nothing about it felt good, even with lubricant. I may just be an odd ball, though. More than likely, regular KY will be fine if you don't feel comfortable using olive oil. (I wouldn't either!)

I'd suggest lube like the PP's.  Olive oil seems gross and greasy and not anything I personally want down there.

We had sex for the first time since DS was born this week - 9 weeks postpartum. We didn't use anything and I didn't think it was painful or uncomfortable. I think foreplay & easing into it are key. ;)

I'm usually for the all-natural route, but that does not seem appealing.

We use regular KY. Honestly, even with plenty of foreplay and lube it still felt like I had a hundred papercuts in my vag. Dr says that it's because of breastfeeding, the hormones are out of whack and it causes extreme dryness. She prescribed a hormone cream after DD#1 was born, but I didn't think it made a big difference. It did get better after a couple of months on its own.

We've had sex only a handful of times after baby. I cried the first two times. Definitely  use ky and take your time. The last few times my body has produced enough lubrication but its still very uncomfortable and painful if anything touches episiotomy.

It was really weird for me; the first time we tried, it was extremely painful but we finished. The next couple of times, we didn't finish and it was more painful than the first time (but I was on prescription pain meds so that may play into it. I also had an almost 4th degree tear, so that took a while to heal).

A few days ago, we finally did it and it wasn't painful! Yay! We used Preseed, but it's the same thing as KY Jelly.

WTF?  Why would I want my vag to smell like a salad?  That's just odd.

I was scared out of my mind for sex at 6 weeks PP. I had a 3rd/4th degree tear and had only started sitting down without wincing maybe 2 weeks prior.  I suggest lube (actual lube) and 2 glasses of wine. Take your time and have low expectations.  I can say it was WAY less painful than I expected.  It wasn't exactly fun for the first few months but it wasn't bad either.  Uncomfortable at first but it wasn't like I started screaming and threw DH off of me.

ETA: I didn't breastfeed.  My friends who did mostly report it was more painful that I thought it was.  I think that's common.

I was freaked out to do it as well, but honestly it was good to just get it over with and stop dreading it.  It wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be, actually pretty nice.  Just take your time and use lube.  Oh and we EBF, but I didn't think it was super painful, different for everyone I guess.

To be honest, we couldnt even wait the 6 weeks. We had sex exactly 3 weeks after having my son. It wasnt so bad, just a little tender. We just had to go VERRRRRY slow. lol Just used a lubricated condom and it worked just fine.

Just wanted to add that I breastfeed. I tore a little bit and had an episiodomy.
