Ruby or Violet?

DH and I are pretty set on one of these two names for our LO, with Anabelle as the middle name. Any pros and cons to the names that you can think of? Combined with the middle name? Schoolyard taunts? Last initial is S.

I'd appreciate the input. :)

Both are great names.  I have never met a Violet (in education for over 10 years), and know 1 Ruby.  I prefer Ruby personally but for no particular reason.  Ruby Anabelle is adorable!

Violet is better than Ruby. I'm not a big fan of jewel names (Jade, Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond). They seem "cheap" to me.

However, Ruby Annabelle flows better than Violet Annabelle. Violet Annabelle at first glance looks like 'violent'.

I am biased as I named DD Violet Anne.

Love Violet Anabelle.

We considered Annabelle (spelled this way) as a first name too.

Love DD name in real life - fits her to a T.

I like Ruby, but both are lovely.

I looked up their popularity in case that matters to you, but both are about the same (Violet is #101 and Ruby is #109). That said, Violet is much trendier. In 2001, Violet was #663 and Ruby #232. Ten years later, they're about the same, so Violet is trending upward much faster.

But then, it also depends on where you live. Violet is a top-50 name in RI, OR, and Maine; Ruby is top-50 in UT, OR, and ID. Oregon loves its color names, I guess.

Ruby flows better with Anabelle in my opinion. Ruby is a nice name. I don't hear it as often as violet.
Me - 32, DH - 32. We have been TTC #2 since January 2012.
BFP on 12/3/12, EDD 8/19/13, U/S 1/17/13 showed blighted ovum, d&c 1/24/13

They're both nice names. There's something about Ruby that I really like. It's classic with a little spunk.
dx homozygous for 3 thrombophilias, poor egg quality, and most likely autoimmune problem. Anything I'm missing?

I like Ruby better : ).  I like Violet, too, but don't like the nn "Vi" and it would likely get shortened to that by someone.

I love both names but I would go with Ruby because a) I just don't think you hear it enough and b) it goes better with Anabelle.

The initials work with either name. I prefer Violet - I think it's very pretty. Like a PP, I'm not a fan of jewel names (Jade, Crystal, Sapphire, Amber). Honestly, just my honest impression - with most of the jewel names I automatically think stripper names. NOT with Ruby (I've known a lot of elderly people named Ruby, so no stripper associations with that one lol!), but I veer away from all of them because of that.

I like both but I prefer Violet because I think the -let ending makes it seem more ladylike. I can imagine an adult Violet easier than I can Ruby.

We are pregnant now with 3 Ruby is on our list. With that, our little Yorkie's name is Violet.

So I LOVE them both.

I loved Violet for our DD but DH ruled it out which is why it's our dogs name now. I'm kind of sad tho because I really love the name.

I like Violet Anne better than Annabelle.

So if your set on Annabelle as a MN then I like Ruby.

If we go with Ruby ours will be
Ruby Anne.

This is so funny because we are 98% sure this baby will be Ruby but we're also taking a list of three back up names just in case and Violet is one on the list. We both like Ruby better because you don't hear it as often and it goes better with our middle name (Elizabeth). But obviously I think Violet is a beautiful too. Nice taste!
