girl name input please!

Hi,

I don't post often, but thought that this would be a good place to get unbiased opinions. DH and I are expecting our first baby, a girl! We are struggling with names a bit, there are so many we like! So...please tell us what you think about our current list.

1. Ella

2. Elsa

3. Lea

4. Anna (close family member has a toddler Hannah. Does that matter?)

5. Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Elsa or Anna and I wouldn't think twice that another family member is Hannah.

Anna is my fave I don't think it matters that a family member is Hannah. Lea is super popular near me so I've been hearing that a lot and kinda over it. Elsa and Ella are pretty but NMS.

Thanks for the input so far! I'm glad to hear that people don't see a Anna/Hannah conflict. For what it's worth, we are definitely using an unusual family name in the middle, something along the lines of Lake.

I'm kinda over Ella, Anna I find a little plain, and Elsa....one of those I want to like but can't. Lea would be my choice but I prefer Leah. I think it's cute but ages well for when she grows up.

I like Leah (although I'm partial to it with the H). Anna would be my favorite of the rest of the names, but I can understand about the family member - I liked Emma, but would never consider it because my niece, the only other granddaughter, is Emily. Big age difference, but since they will be the only two girls, I steered clear.

I don't have many suggestions, but since you're thinking about something along the lines of Lake for the middle name, what about Laken or Laiken?

Good luck!

My favorite on your list is Ella.  And I wouldn't think Anna/Hannah would be an issue at all.

I love Elsa (my late-grandmother's mn). It is on my list if I ever have another girl in the future. So that is my favorite from your list. I think Ella is cute too.

I like Anna the best! I don't think it matters if there's already a Hannah.

Thanks!! My personal favorites are Anna and Ella, DH loves Elsa and Lea. He also likes Anna but we shared the same concern about the close family member. Do you think it's appropriate to check in with the parents of Hannah to see how they feel?

I don't think you need to. I don't think there's an issue with picking a name so close, except I would consider if Hannah and Anna would be together a lot, or would be playing with a lot of children in their age group. The reason I say this, is because I have two nieces who have extremely similar names, and it can get confusing when the parents are trying to address their children when they are all playing together ("did you say Hannah or Anna?"). Also it can be tough for children in their groups (play groups, families, etc) to enunciate enough to distinguish between the two names.

It may not be an issue, but I see it happening in our family a lot and thought I would offer that perspective.

Eta: I like Ella.

I like Elsa and Anna.  I think Ella is pretty popular, so that would be a consideration for me, even though it's pretty.  Would you say Lea as Lee or Leah?  If it's pronounced Leah, I like that, too.

Elsa is my favorite and also the least common of these I think. I also like Elsie. If you like Anna it doesn't matter that there's a Hannah in the family but if you see her often it could get confusing.

They're all very feminine and classic names. However, they're also very blah. None of them pop for me. I like them, just not one stand out to me.

Me - 32, DH - 32. We have been TTC #2 since January 2012.
Our daughter, Emma Kate, is 9. Born 10/16/03 @29w & 1lb13oz

Thanks so much for the input everyone! Smile

It seems like Elsa and Anna are the standouts. I agree about Ella being very popular, that is my biggest hesitation with it.

For the poster that asked, Lea would be pronounced Leah but I could see how that could be confusing!

And for the poster that thought they were all very blah, we have a complicated last name that is always mispronounced, so we like the idea of a simple, pretty girls name.

Thanks again. Hope everyone finds the perfect baby names!

I think Ella is adorable. Definitely one of the more popular names though depending on whether or not that matters to you. Other suggestions could be Emmy, Elise/Alyse, and to be really random I saw girl names like Kennedy and Gwen pop up which I thought were fun : I wouldn't worry about the Anna/Hannah connection either.
From a similar post above, I think Laikynn, Laken, etc. would be great original middle names!

I like Anna and Lea (prefer it spelled Leah) on your list.  I am tired of Ella and think it is a boring name and dislike Elsa.

Other suggestion:
