baby food store vs homemade

I'm currently making my LO's baby food. I add very little or no water/milk to it. Does anyone know how much additives/water/fillers are in jar baby food (4oz). In other words how much is actually the food?

I guess that would depend on which brand of baby food you're looking at.  Some brands out there could have lots of fillers and added sugar, while some are organic, have no fillers and just have the food they're advertising.

The best way to know would be to read the ingredient list on the label.

um...read the labels. Some are pure food, some add stuff. If you're making your own and it's working fine, what's the difference to you?

You don't need to add anything. Most babies can do fine with regular food, even at 9 months.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

I guess I should elaborate a little more. The issue is that my LO is only eating 1-2 oz per meal. I know normal store bought servings are about 4 oz (gerber). I was just wondering if my LO is eating less ounces because I make him pure food with no water added  unlike most commercial baby foods which have water added.

If there is water added, I think it's just to make the consistency smoother. I don't think there's much of a difference in the oz.

I buy baby food from the store. I buy mostly Gerber and its just the fruits and veggies and a little water. No additives or preservatives or sugar added.

I would think that as long as LO is gaining weight consistently, he is fine. Ask your pedi. next time you go. Other than that, I am sure that homemade is probably better all around (and DDs get plenty store bought, so I am not knocking it), so LO is probably getting the nutrients he needs.
