Jackson for a girl

At the park today I heard a women calling her daughter Jackson. I thought I misheard but she said it several times. The girl was about 4 yrs old. Did I miss something? Are people really using this name for girls now?

I am sure she was a girl, she was on the swing next to us. She was dressed like a girl, had a girl voice, was there with 2 other girl friends. They were singing an Annie song from there school show. All the evidence suggests girl.

I had a little girl named Mason in my class a couple years ago so I guess anything goes. I like a lot of gender neutral names for girls, but some names should just remain boy names.

I have known at least one family that lets their children dress however they want (boys can wear dresses and have long hair) and they don't discourage girly-ness to the boys...and vice versa for the girls. I just hope what you saw was a girl with a sad name...

My thoughts too. I met a little boy once that at first I couldn't tell. He was around 2 or 3 but had really long hair.

Society. My name was strictly a boys name for hundreds of years before the 1980s - now you never hear it for boys. 

Other factors are the media - for example, I never would have thought of Blake for a girl, but with Blake Lively being popular right now, I think it's a nice unisex name. Would I ever choose Michael or Brandon for a girl? Nope, but I love names like Carter and Quinn and Kennedy.
