Hello, may I join you?

Hello! I am an active poster on 3T and have been lurking here since last summer. I think I may fit in here as well so I wanted to introduce myself.

I am 27, my husband is 28. We have been married 4 and a half years and have been TTC since June 2011. We sought help from an RE in May, 2012 because I had only gotten AF twice since starting TTC. After blood work, HSG, ultrasounds, and SA I was diagnosed with lean PCOS and my husband with low motility. DH has had 3 more SA's since then and motility has been fine every time. We did 3 cycles of clomid/ovidrel/TI, one cycle of clomid/ovidrel/IUI, and 2 cycles letrozole/ovidrel/IUI.

My nurse called after this most recent BFN to say the doctor is recommending we move on to IVF. I personally don't feel ready yet, and DH feels the same. The biggest issue for me is if we don't know why the IUI's are failing, how do we know IVF will give us a better chance? With our diagnosis there is no reason why IUI shouldn't work, unless there is more to the diagnosis or the diagnosis is wrong. Also, DH is in the Army and will be leaving for an 8 month training cycle in May, which will mean a forced break for us if we dont succeed before he leaves. I'm just not sure we can be ready emotionally and come up with the finances to support an IVF cycle before then. We will be moving when he is done with training which will mean switching to a new RE and kind of starting over.

We have an appointment with my RE in 2 weeks to discuss options. In the meantime, we are going to try a 4th IUI with letrozole/ovidrel.

Anyway, that's me. Sorry this was so long, if you will have me I would love to be a part of your board!

Me:27, DH: 28

Diagnosed with PCOS, right tube blocked, left tube damaged, mild MFI
3 failed cycles of TI with meds, 4 failed IUI's

Welcome--I'm in NoVA, too. IVF will give you a better chance because you know the sperm will have united with the egg--IUIs just get the sperm closer to the egg and who knows what happens from there. GL at your next appointment!

Hi! I recognize you from 3TC, welcome to the IF board. I completely understand the apprehension with moving forward with IVF, it's a huge leap of faith with enormous expenses with no guarantees. I hope your RE can reveal more answers before you proceed. Good luck!

I am new to this site too and have been reluctant to post but it's great to see that other people out there are going through the same thing.  I felt the same way with the jump from IUI to IVF but feel that there is so much more science behind IVF that I am optimistic that it will work.  The financial burden is stressful but dont give up.  Good luck!

Welcome!  I'm also in NOVA.  We did 7 IUIs before moving onto IVF with finances being the main reason for the wait.  Most REs will say if it hasn't happened in 3 tries....it probably wont...but we've seen tons of women get pregnant on IUI # 4, 5, 6 and beyond.  This process is hard enough...make sure you feel comfortable before doing anything you're not ready to do.  Good luck...I hope this IUI is it for you!!
