Pregnancy-related diarrhea or virus?

Yesterday, I had lunch with a student and her parents at an honor band. I had fried food, and I realize now that was a mistake. I started feeling queasy about an hour later, and found myself stuck in a public restroom willing the one other lady in the place to hurry up with her lipstick so I could do horrible, foul things. I started feeling a little pukey, too, but I bummed a piece of gum off the parent I was with and it made me feel a little better.

Three hours later, I found myself much in the same position at home. And again nearly every three hours through the night. I skipped dinner, and was afraid to put pretty much anything in my system, so I just laid in bed all evening and watched Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 again.

I can't say that I'm really hungry now, but H is being pushy so I'm about 3/4 through an Activia yogurt and I had some OJ. I'll be getting some Gatorade at the store today. I have no fever, no other symptoms. I am still peeing a little and I don't feel bad. Some of the sounds coming from my intestinal area last night were...unhuman.

Other than taking it easy today and maybe BRAT-dieting it up a little, should I call a doctor or anything? Some online sources say to call a doctor within the day, others say to BRAT it up and it should pass. It hasn't been quite 18 hours since this started.

I do teach in a high school, and have been around a large number of people in the last 48 hours because of the honor band I was at, and I was at another one earlier in the week so I was around more people than usual then. But, I have been experiencing some changes in taste, smell and food aversions lately, so if it's just that, I wouldn't be surprised.

Oh, and I saw a girl puke on stage in the middle of the honor band concert. In all my years of being a musician, I had never seen that happen until yesterday afternoon. Truly, a concert to remember.

It could be a pregnancy issue or reaction to the grease in the fried food.

I vacillate between diarrhea and constipation this time around, but last time I had awful awful diarrhea as my only symptom until second trimester. It was so bad I had to go to the ER for fluids. You don't sound like you are anywhere near that, but its something to keep in mind if every thing sends you to the throne.

One thing that helps me "keep it together" as it were, is bananas and toast. If you can fathom eating either one of those then it can make things less explosive. I usually do some smooshed banana on toast and voila.

Good luck! I know its miserable.

I have bananas on the counter, but they're too ripe for my taste. Maybe I'll make banana bread later today ;) Walking by them makes me want to gag.

Now that I started cleaning the house, I realized how weak I feel lol. Recruiting H to help.

In the first few weeks I was pg I had the same problem. It didn't matter what I ate, I had diarrhea. I also had no fever, or anything indicating that it was a virus. Actually, I kind of thought of this stage as my m/s since it's all I've had so far... Just keep up on your fluids and eat what you can, it should pass with time. If you still have it after a couple of days, then I would call your Dr.

So sorry, this is awful!

If you have a fever or can't keep any fluids in, contact a doctor. If neither of those are the case, sweat it out. Doesn't really matter which of the two the case is.

I had something similar, and knew it was a virus when DH followed my example :).

Don't let your husband push you on what to eat, as long as you can keep some water/other fluids in, you'll be ok!

Yeah, he's worried the raptor isn't getting enough nutrition, but I was able to eat lunch (a kabob and rice, and some tomato-artichoke soup at a Mediterranean place) and am doing pretty well at this point, so I think it was just a really bad reaction. I have amended my diet and things are pretty light for this week. My only problem is I have a conference for 3 days later this week so I'll have to be careful about what I order!

I now have Gatorade in my possession and am feeling much stronger after my simple meal.

Watching Breaking Dawn increases nausea. Scientific fact. Within 24 hours of viewing Twilight movies your symptoms should pass. HTH!
