Bottle feeding

We are formula feeding and started off using the standard enfamil nipples in the hospital. Today we started using our own bottles which are the avent ones. I noticed with the size one nipples it is taking him a lot longer to drink than the hospital ones. I tried the size two avent nipple and it seems a little fast. Should i  give the size two another feeding or two to get used to it or should I switch to another bottle brand entirely? Thanks for your advice!

How old is your baby? Avent bottle nipples go like this: Newborn, 1+m, 3+m, etc. Are you using the 1+m or the 3+m? I have a 3 month old and I started using the 3 month one, and he seemed to be getting too much milk. I didn't realize that they made so many nipple sizes.

I personally like the Nuk bottles better (their nipples are 0-6m, 6-12m, 12-18 etc. so we will be buying fewer nipples because by the time he's 18 months, we want him off the bottle). He also prefers the Nuk over the Avent (he doesn't choke and he doesn't get frustrated with it).

I never changed the nipples for my daughter. She never fussed about them, so I never changed them. You should be using the slow flow nipples in the beginning. Since they are so little. However, if your kid never fusses about the flow then don't worry about it.

I'd use the slower flow nipples. If Enfamil is like Similac, the hospital nipples are standard flow. I've noticed our LO does better with the slow flow- she drinks slower so she doesn't over eat (when she's hungry, she'll guzzle it down till she makes herself spit up with the standard flow nipples) and she has less gas and chokes herself less. It make take a feeding or two to get used to, but the slow flow are made for infants

Thanks everyone. I am using the size onewhich I believe would be for newborns. It is just so much different than the hospital ones. I was worried he was getting gassy and it was taking him too long to eat.

We had the same problem with the Avent nipples. the flow was way to slow on these.  The formula would only come out one drop at a time and my poor girl was working so hard to get more.  We ended up using the level 2 nipple on Avent and getting Tommee Tippee bottles (level 1 nipple) instead.

You can see the difference in flow if you run some water in to the nipple and press down with your finger. There is a clear difference between the ones from the hospital (that they have gotten used to) and the slow flow nipples.
