Fainted. Should I get checked out?

I fainted on the train this morning. I got really hot and thought it was just anxiety so i focused on my breathing but then i felt like i couldn't stand up anymore so i leaned against the handrail. Next thing i know I'm pulling myself off the ground and someone offered me their seat. I was out of breath and sweating. I don't know what caused this because i ate and drank a lot of water this morning. I'm kind of shaken up about the whole thing. I'm pretty sure the baby is ok because i didn't fall that hard or anywhere near my stomach but I'm wondering if something being wrong with the baby caused this. Maybe I'm just overreacting.

something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. My OB said it was from drop in blood pressure. Your body isn't use to pumping so much blood (blood flow is increases 50% when your pregnant) But, definitely talk to your OB about it. I don't know your medical history, or illnesses.

This has happened to me several times in the last 3 or so weeks and initially I was terrified bc it was not something I experienced before and being pregnant magnetized those fears even more!

I called my OB and explained how I felt and when it happened and what I was doing and she gave me a number of reasons that could lead to this( Blood pressure as PP suggested, anemia which I have, on coming illness and a weak immune system, position of the baby) She said although it is alarming it is normal in second tri.  If it happens frequently even after your Dr. gives you tips to help then they will suggest you come in and get checked out.

Same boat! Just saw my OB yesterday and he confirmed. There is unfortunately nothing you can eat or take that will make it any better either. He just told me if I start getting that feeling the absolute best thing to do is get horizontal and lay on your side, but worst case scenario sit down.

Just at least let your OB or nurse know, so they can rule out something more serious like anemia.

Could be low blood sugar, even though you ate, or anemia...I would call. Feel better!

I've fainted probably 6 times since getting pregnant. After I hit my head the most recent time and having to go to the ER, I talked to my OB about it. She said to make sure I drink lots of water, have some sugar or caffeine (both can increase blood flow). Otherwise, lay down and try to prevent any injuries (i.e. hitting your head, falling on your abdomen, etc). She said I could also try rubbing my carotid artery when I feel faint, as that might help draw blood up toward your head.

Bottom line, she didn't seem all that concerned about it except for the falling part. Just call your OB and let them know what happened. They'll likely just make a note in your chart.

Everyone here as made valid points. Check with your OB and make sure to listen as they will know whats best for you personally. I fainted while showering with my husband. I was about to get out because I felt too hot and suddenly felling dizzy, I said, "I'm going to faint." He just stood there and watched me slither onto myself into the bottom of the tub. I dont know if anyone's ever experienced a half-faint, but this one was definitely it! (Basically where you cant see but your eyes are open and you can barely hear past the ringing in your ears and you cant move)

It was annoying to find out later he just watched me and thought, "Oh, she did really faint..." and STILL uncharacteristically just stood there, not helping...the brat.

Thank you ladies. You made me feel much better. I called my ob and they had me come in yo check my BP and baby's heart beat. Both are fine. She said eating protein in the morning can help and moving my legs around while standing on the train can help blood flow. Scared to take the train tomorrow but maybe I'll get the guts to ask someone if i can have their seat.

I had this happen to me last pregnancy while I was giving training to a large group. I never skipped eating a breakfast with protein again because it was so embarrassing!

This happens to me a lot so I wouldnt call the doctor about it.  Just make sure you're sitting down and take a 15 minutes to relax and have a glass of water.
