Baby Registry Question

Has anyone else been putting off doing a baby registry?  Truthfully, we have been more concerned with keeping me healthy than registering anything for baby.  We have less than 11 weeks to go and have no idea what to register for.  My folks are providing us with a crib, we have already been given a carseat/infant carrier, a friend of ours is passing on bottles/accessories and a stroller.  I have been asked what we are going to register for.  But since we have extremely limited space (a 1-room apartment) we only want to get basics.  Any suggestions?

I checked out random people's registries on Babies R Us and Target. Also, if you do a simple google search for baby registry checklist, tons of things will pop up. Worst case scenario is you get more than you need. You can always return or donate excess items.

I also put it off just because it seemed very time consuming and I had no idea where to start.  I looked at other people's registries on the Target site, too.  We purchased all the big expensive stuff on our own just because I am picky about what I want with regards to crib, stroller, etc.  If in doubt, register for everyday necessities like bottles, pacifiers, wipes, and DIAPERS!  Lots and lots of diapers!

For some reason, people don't like to buy you diapers, but we also have a small apartment and these things were on my list:

  • swaddling wraps
  • storage baskets
  • baby soaps
  • a couple of blankets
  • bottles
  • bottle cleaners
  • pacifiers
  • linens for the crib
  • mattress for the crib
  • Just a couple of toy and book options
  • teether rings
  • baby wipes
  • thermometer
  • grooming set, nail clippers, etc.
  • bath tub, if you have room for it
  • baby towel & wash clothes
  • 1 swing or vibrating chair for the living room
  • Any extra baby stuff for the car, window shade, mirror, etc.
  • diaper bag

If you already purchased all of the big stuff you need register for clothes, different sized diapers, wipes, feeding supplies, books, toys, dvds, there will always be SOMETHING that you need... what about bath supplies? Baby Motrin-orajel-gas releif - a thermometer?

Don't stress yourself out about it - just think of stuff you might need - if people buy things from it that's fine - if not that's fine too!

I just finished my registry because my shower is 2/2. We too have a similar living situation.  We live in a 1 BR apt in NYC.    Also like you, we received a lot of stuff from SIL and neighbors who have girls.  Parents and in laws bought all the big items as well.

What I ended up doing is conducting multiple Google searches for essential baby items (for NYers those living in 1 BR apartments, small spaces, etc.) and a lot of good lists came up and helped me really focus on what we needed.  Once I narrowed the list down I went back to my Baby Bargains Book, Consumer Reports, etc.
