For those who have transitioned to 1 nap...

We started the transition about 5 days ago, but she's really only taken one great nap since then. I guess I imagined that she would sleep at least 2 hrs when she switched to one nap, but they've mostly been just 1 hour and she wakes up crying, instead of being happy. Is this just part of the transition? I asked a friend of ours who is a Ped and he said he sees this a lot in children this age (11.5mo), and he wouldn't be worried. I was just hoping to learn from other people's experiences too.  :)

How long did it take for your LO to transition? Did s/he take a good nap during the transition? Any details at all you could give would be helpful.

Thank you!

DS has been at one nap a day for a couple months now. We let him lead the way, and just followed his cues. It took about a week, maybe 2 for him to find a good time to take a nice, long nap. Most days, his naps are 2-3 hours, but still, some days he only naps an hour or so.

What time does your DS wake up in the morning, and what time is his nap?  We are pretty close to dropping the a.m. nap I think too.

Follow your child's cues.  Most babies will start to shorten or fight their morning nap or afternoon nap (and I don't mean by 5 minutes).  I wouldn't take a nap away unless you were absolutely sure they were ready to drop that nap.  Most babies still need the sleep but if you follow their cues, you'll notice when they are ready to drop down to 1 nap.

DS has been on 1 nap for a few months now. If he wakes up after an hour (occasionally), I go back in and rock him some more to try to get him back to sleep. He usually fights it and it will sometimes take like a half hour to get him back to sleep, but then he will sleep a couple more hours. Most days he doesn't wake up though, and will sleep solidly 3 hours.

Are you sure she is ready? 11 months is a little early to go down to one nap. Sure, it happens, but I don't think most babies are ready until closer to 15 months.
