Question to Former Smokers

Hello!

First congrats on your BFP! I am TTC.

I have been a light smoker on and off for about 10 years, anywhere from 5-10 a day. I know its bad for me and I have really been trying to cut back even more and quit. I just really get tempted when I drink, so the obvious solution is not to drink, right? I haven't had one in 4 days! I am just looking for encouragement.

Did any of you ttc while smoking then quit after BFP?

Did anyone TTC unsuccessfully then quit smoking and get a BFP?

Just curious. Thanks!

I was never a smoker but I would suggest doing everything you can to quit BEFORE you get pregnant. It will just make you feel better that baby was never exposed to anything toxic before you knew you were pregnant.

 Good Luck!

In my case we were not trying, I was never a heavy smoker either, my thing was driving. But I never smoked in my house or at work. It would take me 4 or 5 days to finish a pack.  The day I thought I was pregnant I tried to have a smoke and it tasted so awful I couldn't even finish it. I  got my BFP and never smoked again.  The desire was totally gone for me.

I also been a smoker for that long. I stopped the 1st 3-4 weeks I found out. Then It slightly picked up. My 2nd u/s made me quit cold turkey after seeing my baby move, & hearing the heartbeat...  I WILL do this for my baby, If not for myself. Hopefully, I won't pick the habit back up. PPl don't know tobacco is harder to stop than heroine..  Im here if you need, I am going through the same feelings right now. I really do want one!! Sighs...

i do have to agree with this too though. I worried all the time that dd was going to be sick more b/c I smoked those first two weeks.

If you made it 4 days, then you are pretty much home-free. BUT, you can never convince yourself, in the future, that you can have one and not get addicted again. I quit four times for a year each time before finally quitting for good.

Congrats! Four days is a big feat!

I smoked for 14 years (started WAY too young). I was down to a pack a week so 3 or less a day and when I got that first positive test I quit.

The hardest time for me is when I am driving home from work so I call someone to help keep my mind off of it.What helps me the most is knowing that the more time that passes between me and that last cigarette the easier it gets. If I cave in then it's going to be like starting all over again.

Good luck and stay strong!!!

Kudos for your efforts! It's not an easy thing to do.

I too was a social smoker when I drank. Because I was advised we would have a difficult time conceiving I wanted to do everything I could to make it easier on us. I limited my drinking/smoking to one night per month. And, to our shock and elation (and our doctors), we became pregnant before we were actually "trying"!

Good luck! It will all be worth it :)

I smoked a half a pack a day for years. The morning I got my BFP I threw the pack away and haven't had another. I think about it pretty much everyday, but when I really stop and THINK about smoking one, it makes me nauseous. It was so much easier to quit for me once I got my BFP. Good luck!!!!

Before DH and I could start TTC he asked me to quit and I quit with Chantix.

Then after two losses last year,i picked it up again full time but quit when I got BFP. I miss it everyday. But refuse to do it for sake of LO.

Good luck, stay strong, you can do it.

I quit cold turkey when I got my first BFP a little over a year ago. The first 2 weeks were he!! But the motivation was there. I later lost that pregnancy and it took all my will power not to go back, but I just couldn't in good conscious while TTC. I obviously wasnt drinking at the time of quitting, but I did after the loss and I was able to drink and not smoke, though it was a trigger for quite a while

It's really about internal motivation. You have to want to quit, and you have to remind yourself everyday for months Why you quit. Eventually, you'll stop thinking about it daily and it will be a few times a week, then a few times a month, etc. It will happen if you want it enough, I promise!!

Congratulations on four days, that's a huge step!! The first two weeks are the hardest : if you can get through them, you can get through the next two weeks, and the two weeks after that, and the two weeks after that
