Would you try and conceive after an abnormal pap?

Friend just asked me that question.  

She just found out about an abnormal pap and is scheduling a follow-up (said the doctor doesn't seem too concerned) but, she's likely ovulating this week. 

She's 35, ttc her first. This is maybe her 2nd or 3rd month trying..... 

I think she's worried about a potential problem.  I told her I'd probably still try because time isn't her friend right now.. but, it's only a month, really.

What say you?

I'd say yes, but I have no idea what issues she could be having. It might be worth a call to her Dr just to double check.

TTC since October 2011.
DX with Non-IR PCOS in October 2012.
Missing RIGHT tube due to a prior surgery to remove cyst-zilla (40 lbs!) at age 12.
HSG showed tube was blocked - cleared by dye. DON'T DO CLOMID WITHOUT AN HSG!
Cycle #8 with 50mg Clomid & TI = BFN
Cycle #9 with 50mg Clomid & TI = No response.
Cycle #10 with Clomid 100mg + Ovidrel shot = BFN
Cycle #11 is a break cycle. Cycle #12 is a break cycle. (The break so nice, she did it twice!)

I would call the doctor and double check. If the doctor didn't seem worried I don't think I would be either but I would just check.

TTC #1 - Stopped using BC March 2011, officially TTC since August 2011
Dx: PCOS & mild hypothyroidism (me) & MFI
2 cycles Femara + trigger = BFN/no response. 2 cycles Clomid + trigger = BFN
IUI # 1 = BFN
Repeat SA - low motility & morphology w/ 99% bound by antisperm antibodies
Recommendation: IVF w/ICSI

As an addendum, OP - why isn't she asking her doctor this?

I get that nobody, especially when you're farther into your childbearing years - wants to be told that they have to wait, or put something so exciting and life changing as having a child on hold... But you're truthfully not doing her any favors as her friend by 

1. Telling her time isn't on her side

2. Telling her what she wants to hear

Personally I wouldn't. I'd tell your friend to ask their doc. I had an abnormal pap in 2011 that the doctors weren't concerned about. I had an off feeling and told them I'd feel better with the colposcopy they offered. Turned out I had CIN II and had to have a LEEP. Sucked so much putting off TTC but it was taken care of.

My pap is almost always abnormal and is fine with the follow up test.  My OB told me they changed the range for abnormal several years ago and now the test is over sensitive.

I personally wouldn't put off TTC, but in giving advice to others, I would advise them to check with their Dr.

I had an "abnormal" Pap once that turned out to be an asymptomatic yeast infection that didn't require any treatment.

I had an abnormal pap and my doctor wanted a follow-up 3 months later. I was told that trying to conceive was fine because when you give birth you shed so many cells that the abnormal ones will most likely disappear. Obviously keep up with the follow-ups to make sure it doesn't progress!
