Intro

Hello all,

I've been following and somewhat rarely posting over on TTCAL for about a year. My loss history is in my sig - 4 early losses in the past year. My RE can't figure out why we keep losing the babies, so he said he wants to give me injectibles followed by an IUI. Next month I will be starting gonal-f, along with ganireliex (sp?) and HCG shot and endometrium. Honestly, the explanation of the whole medicated cycle was a lot to take in, so I have been doing research to figure it all out. I think I will have a lot of questions and would love to follow the experiences of others in the same boat. I'm so nervous.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi Harley,

Wow, you've really been though a lot. I'm sorry for your troubles. Thanks for the offer for questions. I appreciate it. I'm not even sure what my questions are right now; I'm still wrapping my head around the process. I hate needles but I don't know if having my husband do the injections will make me feel better or worse. The thing that makes me so upset is the whole idea of IUI; that my baby won't be conceived in our bed, in the way I always assumed he/she would be. I'm not knocking the process and of course am lucky that it's available to me, but it's a hard mental adjustment to make. I mean no offense whatsoever. That's just where I am in my heart right now.

Thanks again for the welcome.

It's so true. When we did ivf, my H had to work as we live on the east coast and he was dealing with hurricane emergencies, he wasn't able to come to the ET so we joked that he'd be in another county when our baby was conceived. But joking aside, it is sad and not the way it should be. We say all the time that were so jaded by this whole process we don't even believe babies can be even conceived by having sex anymore haha

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of needles but I can promise you that they were least painful "shots" I've ever gotten. Anything u imagine is way worse than they are!

Good luck to u!!

The shots aren't nearly as bad as you make them out to be, and I hate getting poked. As far as the not having sex to conceive part, yeah it totally sucks but it's just something you have to get over. It's not fair, it's not right, but at this point it seems that if you want a baby then your in the same boat as the rest of us. IF takes away a lot of things from you and this is one of them. Any questions you have feel free to ask. You might also find more ladies doing IUI's on the TTTC board that would be cycle buddies to you since most of us here are doing IVF and cycles are different. I wish you all the best of luck!

You too! I've done a few medicated cycles (just with femara and HCG) with and without IUI so I might be able to answer some questions.

Has your RE done RPL testing? If not I would request that.

You can also request a Rx for a prenatal with methylated folate, instead of folic acid. Some women have a genetic defect that prevents them from converting folic acid into folate. They should do that testing as part of RPL, but it doesn't hurt to take the methylated folate in the meantime.

I hope you get some answers.
