With FB we started at 7 months, and by 10 months she was fully able to self sooth. With this new LO I might try earlier, but I wouldn't probably do it before 4 months just because they aren't likely to take it well. That's just my personal opinion as a mom and a daycare worker with infants for the past two years..

I  believe the minimum suggested by the CIO books is 6 months. Certainly not a newborn. They can't even begin to learn to self soothe for months and months.

Please do not let your newborn or < 3 month old CIO. It is most certainly cruel at that age.

As pp's said, 6+ months -- you need to first establish consistency and dependability with your baby. LO needs to learn that when they cry, you feed them or change them, etc.

I did at 6 months with DS#1.  I wouldn't recommend any sooner than that.

Not before 6 months.  But in saying that I do not run in to my DD every peep she makes.  She will often make one cry in her sleep and doesn't need anything at all.  But, "cry it out" like lots of crying... not till after 6 months and even then it has to be a gradual process.
