formula to milk

When did you start the transition from formula to regular milk?

Did you slowly work up to it by replacing a bottle?

What kind of milk, whole, 2, skim?

Talk to your ped, because everyone will say different things. My ped said o start between 9 and 12 months. My dd is almost 10 and is bf, and I haven't started yet. Although I've given her little sips to prepare and I don't think she likes it. Most recommend starting at a year. You start with full fat homogenized milk.

We started at 11 months.

We slowly worked up to it (over a month) by mixing 1/2 formula and 1/2 milk until his bottle was all milk.

Start with whole milk. Babies need the fat and vitamin D.

Had our 9 month check up yesterday.

Doc said to not have them fully switched over until 1 year. She said we could start doing 1/2 and 1/2 now, as well as give whole milk products (cheese, yogurt, etc..)

They are still FF, and they love yogurt. We are going to wait until next month or so probably...

My pediatrician told me I could start transitioning around 11 months.  If DD does really well, we could wean her off of formula around a year or so (as long as she gets a balanced diet from table food.)  Most people start off with whole milk.  Pedi said 2% was acceptable if we supplemented with vitamin drops for the vitamin D. I think it would just be easier to give whole milk instead.

We did it after DS's first birthday and after my BM freezer stash ran out.  I started by mixing half BM and half WCM, but DS didn't care at all and after the first sippy cup, I just did plain WCM and never looked back.

We used WCM, but once you switch it's important to have LO eating more solids and relying less on milk as too much Cows Milk can prohibit iron from being absorbed by the baby.  DS had low iron at his 1 year check up so per the pedi's orders we are limiting him to no more than 24 ounces of WCM a day and at least 1 meat meal every day.
