Did you have 3rd degree perineal tearing with baby #1??

Another question....I'm already freaking out about delivery because with my first daughter I had pretty bad tearing and it was an awful recovery. I'm wondering if I will tear just as bad with baby #2. Anyone else have a similar situation? Thanks for any info :)

I did. I'm hoping things will stretch better this time since my body's done it once before. Fingers crossed! I'm also hoping that LO #2 isn't in the 95th percentile for head circumference like DD was...ouch!

Good news and bad news. Bad news was that I had a 3rd degree tear with DS1. With DS2 I started tearing along the scar so my OB gave me a small episiotomy, then I tore some moreTongue Tied I don't know what degree it ended up being.

The good news is that recovery was a bit easier. I was sore for a few weeks but over the worst of it after the first week.

Good luck!

I had a 2nd degree tear with my first, and he had a small head.

With my 2nd, I didnt tear at all. She had a very large head. Lol

I was terrified I was going to tear again. But I had an epidural the 2nd time, and I was able to let her descend slowly while the doc was stretching me out. Wow that is weird to type. Lol

I had 2nd degree tearing/episiotomy. From the close friends I have talked to, the first was the worst for them. They ended up not tearing or having things as bad with subsequent deliveries. My episiotomy/stitches hurt but it actually wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared. Hopefully this one will be manageable too.

I had 3rd degree tear and an episiotomy with #1. Delivery with #2 went very smooth.  I only pushed for 1/4 of the time.  I'm hoping #3 just slides out lol.

4th Deg Tear here.

1st OB (OB Delivered DS) said that if I deliver with her, I will automatically have a C-Section scheduled.

2nd OB (leans towards natural birth) said that they could do a weight estimate up to the week before delivery and see.  If he/she measures around the same size as DS it will be a C-Section to avoid tearing and other problems.

I am seeing a 3rd OB this friday, I'm hoping 3rd times a charm here.  I like what the 2nd OB said, but when I saw his office I realized that his practice and ways to deliver weren't my style - I would rather have a hospital birth than a home birth - especially in my situation.

My friend delivered with a natural birth after a bad tearing with her first one...the second child came out in two pushes with no tearing.  I think every birth is different.

Due to the fact that I had a fairly large head as a baby, and my Mom told me how bad she tore, I asked when in labor with DD  what they would do.  They told me if I needed to have an episiotomy they would cut me, but that there is always a risk of tearing.  I felt it was better to have a somewhat straight line to stitch rather then a jagged one, so I asked that they cut me, which they did and I may have tore a bit beyond that. DD had a good size head so I was not going to be able to deliver her without it.

DS was a pound and 4 oz larger then DD and was coming out face up, so they just cut me in the same place for his delivery.  Recovery wise I actually had a harder time after DS, I got a pretty bad UTI not long after delivery and felt like I was peeing glass, but in a few extra days it healed up.  Who knows what they will do with #3. If my history proves correct, #3 could be the largest out of all of them, and DS was just under 9lbs.

I had a 4th degree tear, up through my vaginal wall.  It was horrendous & I needed drugs to stop the bleeding, almost passed out, etc.  Recovery sucked.  I'm still going to try vaginal with this one.  The risks of it happening again don't outweigh the risks of a c-section.

I had 3-4 degree tearing with DS.  He was 7lbs 11oz so not huge or anything.  But he was posterior and it was a forceps delivery because he went into distress. I also lost a lot of blood and it was 4 months before the tear even healed. Almost a year before I could have sex without pain.

Yeah, so I'm scared for this one.  I don't want a c-sec but I also don't want to go through what happened the 1st time.

I did and surprisingly my tear with #2 was less severe and I didn't tear AT ALL with #3! (For what its worth - nurses delivered #3 so I give them all the credit. My doc couldn't get there in time).

Just an FYI - a jagged tear is will actually heal better and faster than a straight cut. The tissue adheres to itself better and a tear usually isn't as deep as a cut.
